Operations Manager Central Processing

Job Summary

The Operations Manager of Central Processing will direct the integrated logistics and services for decontamination, sterilization, case cart picking, and reprocessing of instrument trays, sets, and medical/surgical supplies at CHOP’s main hospital campus.  This individual will lead a team of supervisors and develop our staff across a three-shift operation.  He/she is responsible for the effective use of materials, personnel, and resources to produce quality results and positive outcomes in patient care.  Works with the CPD leadership team to develop and implement the agreed upon strategy for the department and provides consultative services to network representation as need.

Job Responsibilities

Operational Management (40%)

  • Develops specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization
  • Ensures clear channels of communication with staff exist in order to address concerns in an expeditious manner
  • Monitors and assesses the department's quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control, performance improvement, and regulatory programs to ensure compliance and consistency in sterilization policies and procedures. Develops plans in conjunction with CPD leadership to mitigate safety risks
  • Monitors and reports on CPD department quality measures with recommendations of corrective action when appropriate for recurrent quality issues
  • Develops and prepares internal performance measures focused on measuring, improving, and maintaining the highest quality sterile processing department
  • Assures that staffing ratios are evaluated on an ongoing basis to provide service to major customers
  • Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations

 

2. Leadership and management of the SPD team (40%)

  • Directs and coordinates staff in the sterilization and distribution functions of the sterile processing department
  • Identifies opportunities for employee engagement activities and ensures smooth coordination across all shifts
  • Collaborates with the CPD Technical Manager to develop a comprehensive and thorough orientation and training program for departmental staff
  • Stays current with new sterile processing programs and techniques and provides in-services and training for staff, including standards to measure learning and assimilation
  • Mentors leadership staff and provides ongoing development opportunities
  • Prioritizes and manages team members work assignments so that all work is competed on time with optimal results

 

3. Establishes and nurtures an excellent working relationship with all departmental customers (10%)

  • Conducts regular service rounds to determine effectiveness and overall satisfaction of services provided.  Seeks out information from customers using formal and informal methods.
  • Creates a system to collect regular and timely feedback on services rendered.  Provides feedback to staff and arranges for coaching/training & education as needed.
  • Trends data and demonstrates upward movement of customer satisfaction.  Creates custom reports to achieve a managerially efficient format for information to be utilized by customers and division.              
  • Develops tools to evaluate the satisfaction of CPD’s customers.

 

4. Process Improvement (20%)

  • Serve as project leader on process improvement initiatives including implementing organizational change, data management, process mapping, and communications
  • Identifies and implements improvements using CHOP approved PI methodologies
  • Maintains departmental procedures as standards or requirements change
  • Supports organizational and departmental goals through the employment of small and medium projects

Serve as a subject matter expert for departments outside of CPD

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

CRCST - Cert Reg Central Service Tech

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
 

Required Experience:

Five (5) years of progressive management experience in a complex and diverse healthcare environment. 

Experience in sterile processing or similar field

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degrees focused in a healthcare related field or Master’s degree

 

Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations:

CHL

CIS

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Familiar with SPM Microsystems or equivalent system
  • Must be able to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment
  • Knowledge and capability in deploying process improvement frameworks
  • Proficient in the use of standard office software such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc
  • Exposure to and experience in data analytics and reporting related to sterile processing and OR operations is preferred
  • Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills/abilities and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to our team members, customers, contracted providers, and vendors
