Signaling Engineer - Rail and Transit

Hatch is looking for experienced, energetic and self-motivated individuals to join our rail & transit practice, working with regional and business leaders in our Mississauga office. The ideal candidate must have a passion for solving challenges, working in a team environment, and the desire to grow their career along with our firm.

 

We are actively seeking a Signalling Engineer to design and implement complex signalling solutions for major rail and transit projects. The Signalling Engineer will provide conventional and advanced signalling solutions, including design of transit systems, wayside systems and grade crossing warning systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed signal design for transit and heavy rail clients in both relay based and microprocessor based signal systems;
  • Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, studies, and designs for projects;
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria;
  • Compile and calculate a variety of engineering data;
  • Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.;
  • Assist in proposals preparation and estimates in accordance with customer specifications;
  • Perform first level detailed check of team members’s designs (route & aspects, Electrical and schematic);
  • Participate in customer meetings and signalling design reviews;
  • Ensure designs adhere to necessary federal & provincial standards and laws;
  • Attend meetings with clients and contractors, together with senior member of team;
  • Receive and review various shop drawings for projects;
  • Coordinate with other technicians and related disciplines to produce design deliverables;
  • Conduct site visits for the purposes of observing and documenting observations;
  • Participant in on-site activities, including testing & commissioning;
  • Actively participate in and support internal training development activities;
  • Coaching & mentorship in the support of the development of more junior engineers;
  • Contribute to overall needs for project completion.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control Systems, Electromechanical Engineering or related field, from an accredited university;
  • 6+ years of signalling design experience within a consultancy environment;
  • Registered Professional Engineer with PEO or eligible;
  • Experience in design of rail & transit systems such signalling & train control is preferred;
  • Ability to read circuit drawings and schematic diagrams;
  • Ability to plan and produce compliant signalling schemes with minimum supervision;
  • Knowledge of signalling principles, circuits, components and the implications of working with other disciplines;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Working knowledge of Computer-Aided Design tools and Microsoft Office;
  • Understanding of AREMA standards;
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and to work with minimal supervision;
  • Interested in innovation, sustainability, safety and quality.
