Technical Services Manager – Blend Test Services

 

Job Mission

The Technical Services Manager will lead and oversee technical functions for the department, which includes department chemists, business sponsored studies, product integrity activities, and leads industry advocacy strategies. The role will also provide guidance and support for the department regarding continuous improvement for analytical methods, analytical standards and instrument maintenance. The Technical Services Manager will actively manage the technical team and prioritize project portfolios which contribute to helping in the success of business unit activities for the organization.

 

Key Job Accountabilities

 

Deliveries for the Business

  • Provide technical support for business units and collaborate with business partners to meet their needs. Respond to business partner feedback and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Network and facilitate interactions with internal and external business partner as well as other departments and divisions.
  • Ensure quality and integrity of laboratory data as well as BTS services and processes.

 

Support Division and BTS Department Goals

  • Support the Testing Leadership Team in achieving departmental and divisional goals; collaborate with global staff members on customer issues and division objectives.
  • Help shape and proactively improve the performance of the department and the division.
  • Track Division and BTS Department goals and the group's progress against them.
  • Support processes that ensure operating flexibility in response to business units demands.
  • Develop and administer operating and capital budgets for group; working in partnership with staff members to manage overall BTS budgets.
  • Leads technical projects that provide ‘Best in Class’ results and deliver ‘Perform Beyond the Standard’ solutions
  • Develop and execute on an industry advocacy strategy and build a strong industry presence to establish Lubrizol as an industry leader.
  • Help to manage ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025 quality certifications and support Data Stewardship initiatives.
  • Support workforce rebalancing and planning. Work with BTS staff for consistency in processes, resource sharing, and resource cross-training.
  • Review lab metrics and benchmark independent labs when practical.
  • Be an advocate for Lubrizol Culture Beliefs.

 

Develop Employees

  • Manage employee development through PCMs, Performance and Career Management.  Use the competencies and available career ladders with emphasis to establish strong individual development plans. Provide coaching and timely performance feedback to group members.
  • Foster an environment that encourages employees’ professional growth and promotes continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that employees follow corporate policies, philosophies, and practices.
  • Actively support the rewards and recognition process in the Testing Division that reinforces the desired "culture" and assures accountability.
  • Recruit and maintain talent into the department as dictated by business needs.
  • Participate and provide leadership regarding laboratory best practices. Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety personnel to plan and implement safety protocols and laboratory best practices.
  • Actively support safety initiatives such as RCMS (Responsible Care Management System) and OSHA VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) and ensure appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is identified and used for department activities on and off site.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or higher, in Chemistry or Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years technical support experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience managing people and/or project team leadership.
  • Knowledge of ASTM surveillance committees and Proficiency Testing Programs.
  • Business or industry knowledge highly desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent listening skills.  Communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to engage and inspire others and be willing to develop the skills necessary to manage differences and resolve conflicts.
  • Experienced in prioritizing and managing customer requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical and process-related problems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and flexibility.
  • Ability to travel as required
