The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • In this role, you will be assigned to engineering project teams that are responsible to deliver manufacturable and cost-effective precision optical assemblies.
  • Using Creo, develop 3D solid models of opto-mechanical assemblies from optical prescriptions files (Code V).
  • We will develop proof of concept and prototype testing to validate design concept, as appropriate.
  • You will need to have the capability of executing project assignments and work within Corning standards/processes.
 Travel Requirements:
  • We anticipate minimal travel for this role - primarily for vendor evaluation, vendor interface, training, etc.
 Required Education:
  • We require a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor Engineering Technology in Mechanical Engineering Technology
 Required Years and Area of Experience:
  • Recent graduate or up to 7 years of related experience
 Required Skills:
  • We are seeking a high level of technical curiosity that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges incumbent in the position. Interest and ability to learn, develop, and advance technical skills in mechanical design, precision engineering, and opto-mechanical product development.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical design practices, mechanical fabrication, and assembly techniques.
  • Ability to use experimentation to develop basic process knowledge, design prototype test systems, and perform proof of principle testing to validate design approach.
  • Proficient with 3D CAD (Creo) with the ability to properly apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to drawings.
  • Work in a team based environment and participate as an individual contributor.
