Hatch is currently seeking Construction Planner candidates with a strong Mechanical and Structural backgrounds for work on Industrial Sites in the Sudbury area.

Candidates with broad backgrounds that include multi-discipline construction coordination, shutdown planning in operating plants and EPCM schedules are preferred. The position is on the Process Gas Project located in the Glencore’s Sudbury Smelter.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the site Construction Planner is responsible for planning and scheduling the overall project works, coordinating and managing multiple contractor’s plans and maintaining the overall project and shutdown schedule.

The Construction Planner shall coordinate work efforts of contractors and ensure activities are logically sequenced in accordance with the overall project schedule and plant shutdown schedules. Construction Planner must be a competent person in the construction trade so that they may accurately evaluate the methods and performance in all respects of the scope elements of the project.


• Monitors overall project plan and shutdown plan to minimize interferences with particular attention to ensuring safe work sequences

• Responsible for project plan and shutdown plans

• Responsible for Supervision of contractors’ planning functions

• Assists in the coordination of the planning and scheduling deliverables from the contractors

• Promotes safe and efficient construction execution

• Monitors the delivery of materials to the site

• Identification, management and resolution of contractor and operations interferences

• Strong communication skills with contractor planners, managers, construction supervision, trade leads and operations personnel

• Maintains Project schedule; self starter with demonstrated ability to create mutli-linked, multi-level project plans


• Technical degree or equivalent years of construction experience required

• Trade school and journeyman status

• Minimum four to ten years onsite experience on major projects or in heavy civil or industrial construction

• Proficient and experienced in the use of Microsoft Project

• Can demonstrate a health and safety focus in the planning and construction execution phase

• Strong leadership skills, the ability to motivate and lead discipline-focused site teams to successfully plan work

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills

• Broad knowledge of the EPCM model of project delivery including the activities, interfaces and interdependencies of all project disciplines (engineering, procurement, construction management, and other project related disciplines)

• Comprehensive knowledge and ability to practically interpret and apply good construction practice and appropriate industry standards.


• Involvement in at least one significant project similar in size, scope and location as the particular Hatch assignment being considered

• Ability to operate effectively in a team environment, particularly integrated EPCM/client managed teams

• Ability to professionally manage and resolve contractor issues to avoid further conflict escalation.

• Experience with Primavera P6
