Description:

The Technical Writer III develops, writes, and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment, receives assignment from supervisor, observes production, developmental, and experimental activi ties to determine operating procedure and detail. This writer interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, r eports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods, and revi ews manufacturer¿s and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operatio n, maintenance, and service of equipment. The Technical Writer III studies blueprints, ske tches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrat e and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail, organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regardi ng order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; and reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of repr oduction and binding. This worker may perform the following tasks: maintain record s and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illust rate material; assist in 124 laying out material for publication, arrange for typing, duplicati on and distribution of material, write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases, edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepar ed by other writers or plant personnel. This incumbent may specialize in writi ng material regarding work methods and procedures. N/A

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Five (5) years of experience in the research, preparation, writing, and/or editing of technical documents for publication.
- Experience gathering, analyzing, and composing technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
- Experience composing technical documents including user's manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports in accordance with technical documentation guidelines and standards.
- Experience editing documents to ensure grammatical correctness and conducting research to ensure the use of proper technical terminology.
- Experience gathering, analyzing, and composing meeting minutes and action items.
