Summary Description of Job:

 

This position is responsible for managing all aspects of NFS's Waste Programs, Waste Engineering, and Waste Certification/Oversight in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; in addition to site-specific waste acceptance criteria. This position is the principal technical liaison with off-site treatment and disposal facilities.

 

 

 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and provide direction to technical staff in the discipline of waste characterization, waste certification, and waste programs.
  • Formulate programs and procedures to assure compliance with NRC, EPA, & DOT regulations, as well as the site-specific waste acceptance criteria for each disposal facility (NNSS, WCS, EnergySolutions).
  • Direct a system of self-assessments, surveillance, and audits to assure the quality of transportation and waste management programs.
  • Develop and maintain cost benefit analysis for off-site transportation and waste disposal cost.
  • Provide technical direction to plant population in the characterization and management of waste.
  • Coordinate the development of employee training programs applicable to waste management.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with all plant functions to assure integration of waste management principles.
  • Cultivate and maintain technical relationship with off-site facilities such as NNSS, WCS, and EnergySolutions.

 

 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

 

  • BS Degree in Science or Engineering
  • Six – Eight years of experience is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of nuclear experience, knowledge of DOT and RCRA regulations

 

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. Citizenship (with no dual citizenship) and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
