Transmission Engineer 4

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the analysis of the Cooperative’s transmission system, and the design and construction of complex electrical power systems.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare technical specifications and analyze technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications
  • Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of transmission lines and topographical maps to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements
  • Operate computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks and analysis
  • Confer with engineers, customers and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation and project management activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and customer requirements
  • Design, implement, maintain and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products and systems for commercial, industrial and domestic purposes
  • Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction and installation standards and specifications
  • Investigate customer or public complaints, determine nature and extent of problem and recommend remedial measures to appropriate supervision
  • Oversee project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and on budget
  • Manage the design and monitor the construction of large transmission projects to ensure compliance with the engineering design
  • Represent the Coop in the CCN process
  • Perform a variety of standard engineering computations and analysis
  • Prepare engineering drawings, maps, and construction specifications
  • Research material specifications and resolve basic material issues
  • Coordinate with PEC supervision, consultants, members, developers and government entities on all assigned projects
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to other department engineers Provide efficient and effective responses as an engineering resource to other departments
  • Maintain the security of confidential information
  • Stay abreast of advances in technology
  • Serve as a department and project leader
  • Perform transmission planning studies
  • Complete all assigned tasks

 

Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities: 

  • Serve in a lead capacity in the absence of the engineering manager
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to less experience engineering staff
  • Serve professionally as a subject matter expert to other departments

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs such as PLS-CAD, PSSE, and AutoCAD, and entering data or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing exemplary customer service
  • Knowledge of Power System transmission materials, such as structures, foundations, insulators, anchor bolts, etc.
  • Expert in the PUCT CCN and RPG processes
  • Expert in time management
  • Expert in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
  • Expert at reading and understanding transmission construction design drawings
  • Expert at communicating effectively verbally and in writing to internal and external customers
  • Expert at listening and understanding information verbally and in writing
  • Expert at anticipating, identifying, analyzing and resolving conflict and problems

 

Minimum Qualifications – (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensure):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas OR
  • Ten  years of directly related work experience OR
  • Eight years of related work experience and a Post Graduate Engineering degree focused on a related engineering discipline.
  • Have and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license

  • Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
