Job Description

The Oregon plant of W. R. Grace & Co. manufactures fine chemicals for a broad range of pharma, biotech and nutraceutical customers and specialty catalysts for polyefins and speciality chemicals. We are currently seeking a Methods Development Chemist to enhance our dynamic team. This position will support the Quality Control Department through the development and the validation of new analytical methods, as well as the continuous improvement of current processes/analyses.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Method Development/Optimization – Under the guidance of the QC Manager, propose, develop, and optimize analytical methods to meet specific analytical needs to support development of new chemical processes and/or new customers and products. 
  • Method Validation/Transfer – As needed, validate and/or transfer both customer provided and in-house analytical methods.
  • QC Routine Analysis – Support the QC group by running analyses to supplement existing capabilities, as needed. 
  • Serve as technical subject matter expert for business teams and QC Manager.
  • Actively involved in analytical investigations for non-conformance results.
  • Participate in departmental audits and assist in developing SOPs for continuous improvement plans.
  • Maintains effective communications with cross-functional work groups.

Required Skills

  • Must be able to use Chromatography instruments (HPLC, GC, etc.) and other analytical instruments (titrator, KF, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Fluent with standard software platforms

Required Experience

  • Master’s Degree in analytical chemistry or equivalent practical experience.  Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and be fluent with standard computer software platforms.
  • Should have 5 - 10 years of related experience in the chemical industry dealing with analytical method development in a fine chemicals or pharmaceutical industry, including GMP-lab experience.
