Printed Circuit Board Designer (2018)

The Electric Power Steering (EPS) Core Engineering group at Nexteer Automotive is looking for an experienced Printed Circuit Board Designer who is eager to work in a team environment creating circuit board designs for EPS applications.  This position will be involved with the design and layout of printed circuit boards including schematic capture, PCB size optimization, PCB layer stack up, trace routing and interconnects in addition to creating and maintaining all design documents.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Complete high level PCB packaging studies for EPS pursuit programs to determine feasibility of designs
  • Complete IPC compliant production intent PCB layouts for program specific applications
  • Update schematics and layouts of existing designs with approved changes
  • Perform DFM checks on completed designs
  • Create PCB fabrication drawings utilizing Nexteer templates
  • Provide completed design package to engineering team for release
  • Support maintenance of component library
  • Support Bill of Material development for new and updated schematics
  • Support continuous improvement activities
  • Timely communication of project status and relevant issues
  • Regular contact with local and global cross-functional teams outside the workgroup

     

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with printed circuit board design and layouts
  • Experience with Cadence OrCAD PCB layout tools Required
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics Board Station is a Plus
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing software such as Mentor Graphics Valor or EasyLogix PCB Investigator
  • Experience with IPC design rules for both FR4 and Flexible circuits
  • Experience with CAD drawing formats and tools
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products (PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

Preferred:

  • Understanding of basic electrical circuit design
  • Understanding of basic electromagnetic principles pertaining to printed circuit boards
  • Experience with thermal management in a printed circuit board
  • Experience with the MS Windows operating system
  • Automotive circuit board design
  • Understanding of PCB manufacturing process
  • Understanding of EMS manufacturing processes

Education:

Associates or Bachelor (Preferred) – Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology with board layout experience
