Market Development Manager: Adhesives

 

Background

Learning about customers and markets excites you. You like identifying and understanding changing industry trends and needs. That means that you will be comfortable moving ideas and projects forwards, despite not knowing all the answers. You will also be able to connect dots by leveraging Eastman’s unique approach to innovation.

 

As a member of the Formulations Platform team within Corporate Innovation, collaborating with the commercial and technical teams in the Additives and Functional Products business will be key to your success, help inform strategy, and develop new materials.

 

The Role: What It Will Be Like

On any given day, you could be doing the following:

  • Understanding the changes in key markets and the implications of new trends
  • Connecting with customers to understand their needs and motivations to solve problems
  • Assessing and mapping markets to determine the viability of new growth opportunities for Eastman
  • Learning about how decisions get made when markets need to adopt new materials – and how big a change that might be for the market
  • Combining your marketing experience with our strategic marketing tools to make choices and recommendations for new products
  • Building value propositions by understanding how value is created throughout complex value chains
  • Identifying, developing or launching new products and services that will lead to new revenue for our customers and Eastman
  • Developing project plans so that you can begin work to solve customer problems
  • Collaborating closely with our scientists so that they can design new materials that our customers can use in their products
  • Participating on appropriate business teams to help understand their growth strategy
  • Crafting strategic market activation plans because you understand what it takes for markets to adopt new products
  • Travelling to learn from customers and other industry contacts, discovering new insights for your next great idea. This will be about 25% of your time.

  • New ideas to deliver compelling new product and service concepts
  • This is an impactful role, so you will develop a portfolio of ideas, be able to assess how valuable those ideas might be, and which ones you should pursue
  • You’ll enjoy working in our team and helping us think about our ideas differently as well
  • It will be helpful to tell us what ideas to stop working on – we will thank you and encourage you to work on the next idea
  • The ultimate measure of success will be new sales and earnings from product launches, and the effectiveness of those launches
  • You will be working in highly collaborative teams that will need your experience in motivating and inspiring high performance. We need you to lead. And then more people will want to join your team
  • You will learn more about this, but you will build Market Maps, Multi-Generation Product Plans, lead Stage Gate projects and adopt and use our “Enabling Business & Marketing Excellence” (EBME) framework

 

Required Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • A Marketing, Business or Scientific Degree
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a marketing, commercial, or business development role

 

Preferred Skills & Experience You May Also Have (Hint: you don’t need all of them)

  • Prior experience working at:
    • A specialty materials company with knowledge of markets for formulated products
    • A company that has converted and combined raw materials into something even more useful
    • A management consultancy where you will have developed growth strategies
  • MBA or equivalent
  • You are adept at:
    • Presenting strategies, ideas & proposals in a confident and effective manner
    • Articulating ideas clearly and concisely
    • Collaborating with others
    • Strategic/solution selling
    • Stage-Gate project leadership and managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
    • Thinking creatively and strategically
    • Assessing risks, prioritizing and comfortable making choices
    • You are Adaptable, Courageous, Optimistic, Driven by Market Insight and a Bias for Action
