Co-Op Student, Human Resource

As an extension of traditional classroom learning, co-op students gain practical work experience and apply what they are learning in professional settings.  During the co-op work semester(s), students will be enrolled in a 3 credit hour online professional development course which will help them articulate and synthesize what they are learning through the co-op experience as well provide guidance and a framework for the development of professional skills.


This position will allow the co-op student to gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience within Central Human Resource (HR) in an office environment which includes multiple areas of HR expertise and specializations.  The student would also have the opportunity to take part in various projects, HR related meetings, and help brainstorm ideas of improvements and efficiencies.


The student will spend four weeks in each area. The student will begin working with the Recruiting and On-boarding teams, then the Labor Relations team, and with the HR Business Partners for the second rotation, then for the third rotation the student will be working with the Training team. For the final rotation the Co-op student would be working with the Compensation team, the Benefits team, the Wellness team, and the HR Operations team. The student will be exposed to HR knowledge and experiences that can be applied when seeking future job opportunities.


Characteristic Duties

The student will perform various job duties and functions related to one or more specific areas of HR expertise which may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Talent Acquisition (Recruitment & Hiring)
  • HR Operations
  • Employee Benefits, Retirement, & Wellness
  • Compensation & Classification
  • Labor & Employee Relations
  • Learning & Development
  • HR Compliance (Policies & Procedures, State & Federal laws & regulations, etc.)


Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time, matriculated UC student in related major.
  • Must be enrolled full-time during all co-op work semesters. 
  • During the co-op work semesters, students must be registered for the appropriate professional development course.  Information regarding this course will be provided at the time of hire.
