The Tissue Group, a division of Cascades, is the second-largest tissue producer in Canada and the fifth-largest in North America. The Division manufactures, converts and markets a huge selection of paper products, such as hand towels, bathroom tissue, facial tissue, napkins, paper towels, wipers and dispensers for the North American away-from-home and consumer products markets. The Group has more than 2,200 employees and operates seven manufacturing plants, nine conversion plants and four plants with both manufacturing and conversion facilities.

Your challenge!

Reporting to the Plant Manager, with a dotted line to Regional Administration Director, this position will be responsible for preparing and interpreting financial statements as well as the annual budget. The individual will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and help lead change in their financial area.


This position will partner with the Plant Manager to ensure the correct data and analysis is communicated and shared, so business objectives can be met. This role will also play an active part in the daily operations to guide production and inventory management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing and interpreting financial statements as well as the annual budget.
  • Prepare and present monthly sales, financial results and production analysis
  • Control, develop and improve the various transactions and processes according to accounting standards (Sarbanes Oxley)
  • Play an active role in the daily operations to guide production and inventory management, costs and variances
  • Coordination with centralized shared services of accounting transactions, i.e. invoicing, payables, receivables and information systems
  • Work closely with management team and supervisors to ensure cost effectiveness in business decisions
  • Establish and interpret relationships between financial results and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare “Capex” proposals, track spending of capital funds
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year end closing
  • Reconcile various ledger and accounts
  • Responsible for costing of new products
  • Supervise Accounting Clerk/Technician

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • At least five years of progressive financial accounting growth in jobs related to the field
  • Previous costing experience as a cost accountant in a manufacturing facility
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred


  • Strong computer knowledge and experience with systems MRP and Microsoft Office
  • Expert level Excel spreadsheet including pivot tables, waterfalls etc.
  • Good communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written); able to effectively communicate to all levels of management, both internally and externally
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in various environments

  • Good time management and organizational skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient manner
