    Responsibilities

    A HEALTH SYSTEM SPECIALIST, GS-0671-7:
    • Provides guidance and assistance on a variety of healthcare policies/programs, e.g., military treatment facility (MTF) admission policies and facility resources/programs, medical evaluation/physical profile board procedures, alcohol and drug rehabilitation policies/programs, line of duty investigation procedures, CHAMPUS, Delta Dental Plan, and Veterans Administration sponsored programs.
    • As the full-time health systems coordinator, the incumbent advises in matters pertaining to administrative management of medical programs.
    • Provides policy guidance to unit commanders and supervisors concerning medical screening/evaluation/initiation of care for AGR personnel.
    • Refers AGR personnel with specific medical problems to agencies with the appropriate specialist for treatment, e.g., substance abuse problems and individual/family counseling.
    • Analyzes information to determine the most efficient/economical means of medical treatment available and the probable course(s) of action using knowledge of medical terminology and practices.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MILITARY REQUIREMENTS :

    Military Grades: E-5 to E-6

    Compatible Military Assignments: AFSC : 42A - 68

    - Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the MOS to apply or be considered for selection. Selected applicant must be assigned to a compatible Military position and attain MOS within 1 year of appointment action.

    - Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

    - All soldiers, civilian employees, and contractor employees who drive Army-owned or leased vehicles must complete the Army Avoidance Course (AAC) training when they start working for the Army. Must have a valid Washington state and military driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Government Travel Card (GTC) and be able to attend all schools deemed necessary by the supervisor.

    - Must maintain membership in the WA National Guard for continued employment.

    - Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

    Qualifications
    GENERAL EXPERIENCE :
    All series personnel must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for that level and must have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in a career skill competency level immediately below the next higher level. Must have validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE :
    Knowledge of general clerical procedures; medical terminology, regulations, and directives; medical ethics; and health records administration is necessary. Must have at some experiences, education, or training which provided a working knowledge of health care missions, organizations, programs or requirements.. Experiences are desirable in the review of health service programs and recommending solutions to complicated problems. Experiences are desirable in developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in the state medical programs. Experiences are desirable in working various administrative tasks such as, budget, personnel, or public relations within a medical unit or office.

    Education Requirements:
    Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum in health care administration, general science, biology, psychology, or other closely-related medical degree fields.

    Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:
    May substitute an educational-degree study program for some specialized experience factors.

    To receive credit for Education, you must provide transcripts or other documentation of proof to support your Educational claims.

    - If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency ( https://www.sss.gov/RegVer/wfRegistration.aspx ).

    - Military Technicians are ineligible for enlistment, retention, and student loan repayment bonuses. Acceptance of a Technician position will terminate these incentives.

    - Military Technicians in the excepted service will wear the appropriate uniform while performing as a Technician.

    - Veteran's preference does not apply to National Guard Technician positions in accordance with Title 32 USC 709 (f).
