Chassis Mechanic Supervisor - CSX Cincinnati


This position will participate in the activities related to the Operations Team and will provide oversight and monitoring of activities at TRAC’s national network of contracted depots and pool chassis yards (CY’s).  This person will be responsible for the oversight of day to day operations functions relating to the depots & CY’s within a region, including at a minimum: scrap chassis cutting, invoice review, contract compliance, axle & chassis inventory review and compliance, PO issuance, and any special projects as needed.  This person will also be responsible to interact with external & internal customers, including the field staff on a regular basis to coordinate and monitor depot related activities.

  • Lead and manage local team of Mobile Service Unit Chassis Mechanics
  • Provide oversight and review all activities in place at depots and CY’s that have a cost component: storage, handling, repairs, etc.
  • Coordinate, track and report on all booking activities at pool chassis yards (CY) and depots
  • Ensure repairs are completed to set budget amounts
  • Ensure equipment availability for forecasted bookings
  • Issue Purchase Orders as required to allow depots to perform work
  • Interact with depots in order to monitor and facilitate the timely off-hire processing of all units awaiting customer off-hire approval
  • Interact with field staff in coordinating activities for issue resolution
  • Maintain database and update in house system with status changes as required
  • Remarking unit numbers
  • Reinstate, Retire, & Add units
  • Interact and coordinate movement of equipment repaired at 3rd party locations with transportation and depot teams
  • Monitor repair activities at depots and track production levels against target
  • Facilitate system evaluation of units as repair candidates vs. storage candidates at depots and CY’s
  • Provide oversight in the review of and approval of all manual invoices received from depots
  • Monitor all repair activities and costs expended at depots and CY’s
  • Monitor inventory levels and repairs in the TRAC premium chassis pool
  • Monitor equipment inventory levels at depots and CY’s, ensure accurate data is maintained and readily available
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience
  • PC literate / MS Office Product literate, especially Internet Explorer, Excel, Word & Outlook (Access a +)
  • Preferred experience working with a quality process / system (e.g. ISO, Six Sigma, TQM etc…)
  • Ability work within a process oriented team atmosphere
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team oriented work environment
  • Ability to identify problems, process resolution and implement action or solution timely
  • Ability to meet deadlines; prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to learn company proprietary software programs
