    This position is located at Edwards Air Force Base Veterinary Treatment Facility.

    The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is within the commuting area of Edwards Air Force Base.

    This announcement has been extended to 28 September 2018 with weekly cut-offs. The first cut-off will be 21 September 2018. Any applications received on or before 11:59pm EST on 14 September 2018 will be considered first.

    Responsibilities
    • Performs professional veterinary work that involves the investigation, examination, treatment, and control of animals.
    • Diagnoses animal health problems; vaccinates against diseases, such as distemper and rabies.
    • Medicates animals suffering from infections or illnesses
    • Treats and dresses wounds, seat fractures.
    • Performs surgery.
    • Advise owners about animal feeding, behavior, and breeding.
    • Issues health certificates.
    • Performs and interprets laboratory findings.
    • Maintains health records and prepares reports as necessary.

    • Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events - as needed by management.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements:
    1) Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).
    2) Possess a state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state).
    3) Ability to lift 40lbs and endure long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc.

    Best Qualified Criteria:
    1) Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.

    Education
    Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).

    Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening. Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire.

    Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

    Additional selections may be made from this vacancy announcement for up to 90 days after the closing date.

    Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week. Hourly salary is $35.94 to $40.73.

    Work schedule to be determined after hire. No TDY, shift work, or holidays.

    Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
