Position Overview

The Prairie States Paving/Hallett Materials Assistant Controller position offers a diverse set of responsibilities and will work alongside the Controller on various issues and projects. The candidate is a skilled financial professional who understands business, operations and financial processes; has the ability to integrate finance and operations, and can collaborate with operational leadership.  Core behavioral characteristics we seek include: being a partner to business managers; implementing analytical decision-making in the business; and, proactively finding opportunities and recommending ideas for increased profitability.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Record weekly entries into Accounting Software
  • Prepare and approve general journal and job cost entries
  • Supervise costing and production information, integrity, and timing.
  • Assist in the monthly closing of accounting records
  • Perform various General Ledger Trial Balance Reconciliations
  • Compile management reports to help support operations with daily and weekly results.
  • Review balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis to confirm proper reconciliation and supporting backup
  • Conduct analysis/review of P&L accounts to support the month end process along with cost analysis and evaluation
  • Work with Controller & GMs on financial analysis
  • Recommend, lead and/or assist with new efforts to improve management and financial performance
  • Coordinate with Midwest Region on requests/documentation related to external and internal audits
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place and maintained to safeguard financial assets. This includes all SOX controls and Central Division accounting policies and procedures.
  • Work on ad hoc projects as directed
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required. 
  • Other duties as may be assigned. 

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
  • Manufacturing and/or construction background along with multi-unit operations is highly desired

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strong oral and written communications and problem solving skills.
  • Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must have the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
