Controls Engineer

Job Summary:

 

The Controls Engineer is an important link between Engineering, Production, and the Maintenance Team. This position is directly responsible for supporting maintenance activities, documentation, troubleshooting, training of support staff, and management of controls system for a state of the art Bottling facility.  Responsibilities to include controls systems design, layout, material quotes and ordering, installation, and construction management services.  This position will also provide project engineering support to the bottling, facilities, and winery operational groups on as needed basis.

  • Design, manufacture, document, and test the following: control systems, process controls, system integration, and automation
  • Setup, program, modify, and maintain a variety of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) including Allen Bradley SLC 500, Allen Bradley CLX 5000 and Allen Bradley PanelView platforms
  • Create, organize, and maintain documentation related to aforementioned items
  • Implement projects and modifications electrical/electronic/programming in nature
  • Drive problems to resolution by getting the right resources involved in problem solving process.
  • Checks the quality of work by others
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces all regulations and policies.
  • Evaluates situations to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Perform and monitor troubleshooting of defective equipment and systems to determine root cause analysis to correct problems.
  • Coordinates with production, business analyst, venders, and warehouse managers to drive business improvement initiatives. 
  • Ability to make decisions aligned with business objectives
  • Utilize the CMMS to manage and improve PM’s and spare parts
  • Improve and develop SOP’s, maintenance procedures, and safety procedures
  • Train and develop control technicians working in the Bottling arena.

     

Other Functions:
  • Responsible for understanding the Food Safety and Quality Management System and related activities, including the SQF Food Safety & Quality Policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering Degree
  • Experience: 3 years hands on experience designing, programming, installing, de-bugging and maintaining PLC based control systems.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills concerning PLC functions and integrated controls equipment.
  • Ability to set priorities and to be self-disciplined and consistent.
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement action steps and follow-through with the people responsible for them.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office and integrated work order / inventory system.
  • Ability to develop and implement process improvement solutions.

Working Conditions:
  • Moderate to heavy physical work
  • Work site may be any one of Trinchero Family Estates’ facilities
  • Standing for long periods of time (8 hours per day)
  • Must comply with all safety equipment requirements including ear plugs and safety glasses
  • Exposure to various chemicals in production areas
  • Exposure to machinery, forklifts and related production equipment
  • Long and irregular hours during peak periods or on various shifts
  • Extensive walking and lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Potential for being "on call" for the facility to ensure continuous uninterrupted production.
