Process Technology Engineer

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, AL.  Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.  

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.




  • Develops and maintains an effective technical team responsible for HSM technology and development
  • Leads major improvement projects – utilizing systematic (DMAIC) methodology – to improve product capabilities, output, cost (yield), energy and environmental performance and logistical ease     



  • Provides technical support for all HSM units, including timely and appropriate reaction in case of process and product related events
  • Responsible for regular reporting of HSM process performance to senior management
  • Manages and improves statistical systems used to define product and process capabilities (Capa Tables, Control Charts, SPC, etc.)
  • Develops and maintains unit scheduling rules
  • Develops and implements special/improved inspection and testing methods (SORM, IMS Fe, etc.)
  • Drives functionality and performance of process models/control systems (Coating Mass Control, Shape Control, etc.)
  • Fulfills the commitment to ensure a safe and healthy work environment

  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by fostering an environment that embodies trust and respect
  • Ensures working knowledge of competencies as defined in ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2016, ISO 17025:2005, and ISO 14001:2015.     



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, or combination of post-secondary education and related experience         



  • Demonstrated understanding of control systems, instrumentation, process models (Process Management fundamentals)
  • Background in all major steel mill processes and products, with particular in-depth knowledge of HSM processes and technology
  • Demonstrated knowledge of (Metal Coated) Steel Strip properties and applications
  • Basic understanding of heat and mass transfer, combustion, chemical reactions and equilibrium (Chemistry and chemical engineering fundamentals), etc.
  • At least 5+ years of progressive industrial experience (3+years in HDGL more desirable)               



  • Ability to develop and deliver technical presentations at a senior management level (including delivery of technical papers at industry conferences)
  • Demonstrated supervision and team Leadership
  • Focused, logical and systematic/analytical thought process
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within organization
  • Previous plant start-up experience helpful (“change champion”)
  • Appropriate computer skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and SAP
  • Dedicated problem solver
  • Interest and ability to work at our site operations in Calvert, Alabama
