General Summary: As a Market Loss Prevention Agent you will be responsible for promoting shortage prevention and awareness as well as working to detect and apprehend shoplifters and other customers who commit thefts and/or fraud while on DSW premises. Our Market Loss Prevention Agents allow us to move with tempo to mitigate and resolve emerging external theft, fraud trends, and incidents.  They play an integral role in supporting our mission to reduce theft and fraud as well as improve safety for both DSW’s associates and customers.


Reports to: Store Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the identification and resolution strategies for stores within assigned metro area
  • Deploy wherever there is an emerging theft resolution need - this role supports multiple locations and flexibility is required as schedule changes will occur based on emerging theft trends
  • Under direction of store and Loss Prevention management, train new associates on LP standards, company policies, theft deterrence and shortage awareness.
  • Recover stolen merchandise; apprehend shoplifters and other customers who commit fraud against DSW in compliance with company standards.
  • Make productive merchandise recoveries when necessary.
  • Builds theft and fraud intelligence by collecting documentation, information, and sharing trends.
  • Documents and shares intelligence with necessary partners within DSW and local law enforcement.
  • Serve as support to store management to ensure safe work environment.
  • Prepare complete reports relative to all theft incidents, merchandise recoveries, and safe work environment.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality



Required Skills and Competencies: 

  • Complete all Loss Prevention training requirements, maintain personal certifications and licensing as required by law.
  • Understand and maintain strict compliance with the law and company policies concerning apprehensions and the preservation of evidence.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to evaluate circumstances and make timely decisions based on company apprehension guidelines.
  • Must be able to stand/walk sales floor for entire shift.
  • Possess general operating knowledge of retail security camera equipment.
  • Ability flexible schedule including nights and weekends appropriate to retail business needs.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Drivers’ license. You can expect to travel up to 50 miles per day within the MD, VA, and DC Metro markets.
