Responsibilities

The Cloud Platforms & Architectures Department at Aerospace is seeking a Cloud Systems Engineer to join the team! Seeking an experienced candidate with a keen knowledge and interest in cloud systems and solutions including architectures, designs and development using cutting-edge technologies.

 

Key Functions

  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Assignments typically have specified objectives. Contacts are primarily internal, with infrequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.
  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept software for mission-critical, distributed systems.
  • Conduct experiments with advanced technologies (e.g. virtualization/cloud platforms, software technologies, etc.) to prove technology viability for specific application/system.
  • Assess the maturity and use of various technologies (hardware and software) for use in scalable and resilient mission-critical applications in a production environment.
  • Work in an agile, feature-driven environment with small teams that deliver features and products to customers in short sprints.
  • Quickly learn and understand new technologies to utilize skill within product lifecycles.
  • Foster an environment of learning and progress with team members and others.
  • Maintain current knowledge of infrastructure, security and technology trends

Qualifications

This position can be filled as a Cloud Systems Engineer or Sr. Cloud Systems Engineer

 

Required for Cloud Systems Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related field(s) from a recognized institution
  • Eight or more years of increasingly responsible and related professional experience
  • Experience maintaining a production Information Technology (IT) infrastructure/environment on premise and/or in cloud
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts including: Software Defined Networks (SDN), TCP/IP, IP Subnetting, Network Security Zones and Virtual Private Clouds
  • Strong understanding of software engineering concepts and platform deployment technologies
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and/or other orchestration platforms
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Presentation skills to provide updates to management to ensure project development remains aligned with management/customer vision
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work in and with interdisciplinary teams
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational needs technically and socially
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

Required for Sr. Cloud Systems Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related field(s) from a recognized institution
  • Twelve or more years of increasingly responsible and related professional experience
  • Extensive experience maintaining a production Information Technology (IT) infrastructure/environment on premise and/or in cloud
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts including: Software Defined Networks (SDN), TCP/IP, IP Subnetting, Network Security Zones and Virtual Private Clouds
  • Strong understanding of software engineering concepts and platform deployment technologies

Preferred

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in a technically related field
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
  • Experience with DevOps tools (ELK, Jenkins, Artifactory, etc.)
