R&D NAND Cell Development Lead



As a R&D NAND Cell Development Lead (CVD/Diffusion), you will be responsible for developing and executing the films technology solutions to enable the NAND Cell roadmap for next generations of memory products. This team is responsible for developing new processes and equipment technology in CVD and Diffusion area to support Micron’s NAND development projects. As the lead, you will be responsible for understanding the cell process and module level requirements by partnering with other development and integration teams and setting a strategy for films development by engaging with internal and external (equipment suppliers and others) partners. You will work closely with the other Process Development teams (films, dry etch, etc), Process Integration, Manufacturing Development, and Adv Technology development teams to develop and integrate robust equipment and process technologies.  You will be expected to actively participate and contribute to R&D Roadmap Business Processes and be aware of progresses in general academic and internal scientific research in thin films process technology. Additionally, you will be responsible for the training and career development of the members of your team and maintaining a safe environment by ensuring safety policy is followed for new processes, equipment, and personnel.


 In this role, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing efforts and setting the strategy for developing thin films material, equipment and process technology for NAND products.
  • Providing day-to-day project management and technical advice for your team.
  • Managing the needs of multiple customers to set priorities for your team.
  • Drive the NAND cell roadmap requirements.
  • Identifying technology gaps and kick off equipment, processes, chemicals and materials exploration projects internally or with external partners.
  • Communicating effectively the films technology status and roadmap with R&D Executive Management and Process Integration teams.
  • Driving continuous process and productivity improvements to meet the needs of PI and manufacturing by actively engaging with equipment development team and suppliers.
  • Collaborating with the Manufacturing Development Engineering team to meet R&D product quality and cycle time goals.
  • Resolving yield and defect issues related to your process area.
  • Working closely with R&D Management, Process Integration and High Volume Manufacturing Sites to regularly align on project priorities, timelines, and needs.
  • Engaging with manufacturing sites, Manufacturing Integration and Central Teams to provide technical direction and maintain alignment between production and R&D.
  • Providing regular feedback to your team members on performance, developing a career plan and mentoring your team members to support their professional development, through Micron’s performance planning and appraisal process.
  • Setting and communicating performance goals for the team, and conducting goal based performance reviews for all team members.



  • PhD in an Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or Chemistry or similar related field.  Master’s Degree with 3+ years of relevant industry experience may be considered as a substitute.
  • Candidate must have strong understanding of CVD, ALD, and Diffusion processes as well as hardware. 
  • At least three years of process development experience on NAND products.
  • Working knowledge on the operation of a NAND cell( i.e. program window, charge loss, retention, P/E cycles,…) and film requirements to enhance the cells operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead successful projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to form constructive relationships with partners and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to be independent driver for results and solutions.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capabilities using structured and data driven approach.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and manage the performance of direct reports.
  • Proven ability to solicit feedback, accept input, and analyze success/failure.
  • Proven team-building skills, the ability to delegate, motivate, and assist direct reports in reaching their goals and ability to solicit feedback, accept input, and analyze success/failure.
