Our Advanced Manufacturing team has an open opportunity for a Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. This position is responsible for providing leadership to manufacturing process ‘Technical Experts’, within a specific process area of focus. This position will build internal and external manufacturing process competencies critical to Harley-Davidson’s long-term success. These include manufacturing process innovation, standardization, make/buy analysis, DFM/DFA and process development/validation/implementation activities in support of the Life Cycle Plan, key strategic actions (e.g. Growth, Flexibility, C.I. strategies), and technical help chain support of current product/process issues.

  • Builds manufacturing process competencies across the enterprise and suppliers.
  • Future thinking approach to determine and implement strategic initiatives that further advance the integration of product and process development.
  • Seeks and develops alliances and partnerships to achieve business goals and improve overall business performance related to product and process development.
  • Makes recommendations and/or decisions that are unpopular but are necessary to stretch or break traditional thinking to propel the organization to the next level.
  • Creates and maintains an environment in which people can be fully involved and their abilities utilized in achieving business goals/objectives.
  • Leads the development, support and implementation strategies that enable product and process integration strategies.
  • Effectively utilizes APQP tools and techniques and monitors status of same amongst direct reports.
  • Provides support to ensure the effectiveness of H-D’s Product and Process Development Systems.
  • Seeks area of systems / strategy integration throughout the business.
  • Technical Expert in in Metal Fabrications and Composites Manufacturing.

Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required. Masters degree in Engineering or Business preferred.

Experience Required
We are looking for someone with..
A minimum of 8 years of using product and process development principles and practices. Related experience must include increasing levels of responsibility including some level of front line leadership. In addition, they will have demonstrated one or more of the following:
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully achieving business process improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams to achieve project goals/objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing Advanced Product Quality Planning Methodology and the integrated product and process development techniques within it. (e.g. Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, I/PPAP, Standard Work).
  • Proven success managing medium scale projects from concept development through successful implementation.
  • Possesses a demonstrated ability to: lead change, influence others, foster key stakeholder relationships, lead by example, identify and plan for technical process improvements, remain focused, non-confrontational and flexible while under pressure.
