Armstrong Building Products (ABP), a division of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for an Industrial Maintenance Supervisor at our ceilings manufacturing plant in Macon, GA. We are immediately seeking a roll up your sleeves Industrial Maintenance Supervisor with strengths in balancing maintenance work with the needs of a high-speed industrial manufacturing operation. The Industrial Maintenance Supervisor provides sound direction and leadership to the maintenance team and delivering effective supervision of maintenance department resources to ensure a safe, responsible and cost-effective manufacturing operation. As the Industrial Maintenance Supervisor, you will also have the opportunity to participate in process improvement initiatives, using innovative tools such as Lean manufacturing and equipment optimization.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Industrial Maintenance Supervisor:

 

  • Managing and improving equipment performance, reliability, and uptime
  • Supervise and direct unionized maintenance staff
  • Direct work of outside contractors
  • Plan and coordinate plant shut downs and major maintenance projects
  • Ensuring a safe work environment and promoting an environment of continuous improvement
  • Developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs, establish and assign appropriate PM tasks to improve equipment uptime
  • Staffing responsibilities include corrective disciplinary actions as well as hiring of new employees
  • Participating in capital improvement projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Analyzing equipment and maintenance data, using tools such as failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), root cause analysis, etc.

 

Required Qualifications for the Industrial Maintenance Supervisor:

 

  • Technical degree or previous industrial maintenance supervisory experience desired or high School Diploma with appropriate experience
  • 5+ years industrial maintenance and optimization experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven record of developing and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance and reliability programs and systems
  • Experience with continuous improvement processes and best practices
  • Experience with pumps, rotating equipment, piping and conveyors
  • Experience with equipment maintenance techniques, such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Predictive/Preventive Maintenance Techniques
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as SAP, is a benefit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong employee management skills, and solid project management skills

 

Desired Qualifications for the Industrial Maintenance Supervisor:

 

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Experience managing outside contractors
  • Experience in ceiling, paper, plastics, or similar manufacturing industry

About the Location (Macon, GA):

Our Macon Plant, one of six Armstrong ceiling plants, employs approximately 435 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers.  Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space.  It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world.  The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.
