Engineer II - Maintenance & Modification

Participates in design, test, development and documentation of equipment modifications and component designs and modifications.  Prepares clear, complete and accurate working plans, detailed drawings and 3D models from rough or detailed sketches or notes.  Develops and documents concepts from ideas and discussions.  Responsible for using the department’s drawing management system.  Documents maintenance requirements for cars and major subsystems to ensure the safe and efficient long-term operation of the fleet.  Provides Engineering support for supplier and part approval process.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a 4-year university
  • Three to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of Mechanical Engineering education and experience.
  • Proficient with computer software such as Windows, MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Trained in AutoCAD and 3-D modeling software (Solidworks is preferred)
  • Knowledge of elementary welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects and tasks on a regular basis
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write formal engineering reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, directors, AVP, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and provide recommended course of action.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.



General office environment; may be required to travel.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit (remain stationary within work area) and use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach.  The employee is occasionally required to move about (stand, walk).  The employee must occasionally lift and/or transport up to 10 pounds.  Correctable vision required for close, distance, and color vision capabilities.
