The Role

Join our Building Engineering Services Business Group at HDR as Project Leader and lead the delivery of mission critical / data centre projects across Victoria.

Based in Melbourne, you will take the lead in delivering high-profile data centre projects from concept to completion. This is a key project leadership role where you’ll oversee the entire project lifecycle, manage client relationships, and ensure successful project delivery while meeting financial and quality targets.

This role will give you the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

As Project Leader (Data Centres) we’ll count on you to:

  • Lead the delivery of data centre projects, overseeing all aspects including defining client requirements, scope, technical specifications, cost planning, and deliverables. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecast financial performance, and ensure that the project meets profitability targets.
  • Complete all design and execution activities within the established programme timelines, carefully managing costs and resources to meet both client and organisational objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients to ensure their satisfaction and secure repeat business.
  • Contribute to identifying and pursuing new business opportunities. Participate in presentations to potential clients and contribute to expanding HDR’s market presence.
  • Motivate and manage project teams, setting clear objectives, monitoring performance, and fostering a collaborative work environment. Support professional development through coaching and mentoring.
  • Contribute as a senior member of our growing Melbourne team.

About You

  • 10+ years of experience in designing, managing and delivering projects, with a strong focus on mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience within the mission critical / data centre sector, demonstrating expertise in delivering complex projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing project teams, contractors and third-party vendors.
  • Skilled in project managing ongoing projects, ensuring successful outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Strong leadership qualities and resource management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with clients, project teams and other stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in leading teams, providing guidance, and fostering collaborative and high-performing work environments.
  • Competent in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint) and other relevant software where required.
  • Degree-level education (or equivalent) in a relevant field, with a focus on engineering, construction or project management.
  • Chartered status, or ongoing pursuit if not already achieved.
  • Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 7 years related experience
  • A minimum 2 years project management experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be a plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
