Associate, Communications and Engagement

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

With a strong pipeline of work, we are looking for a strategic, talented, and committed Associate, Communications and Engagement to join our growing Melbourne team. In this role, you will help our clients solve some of their most complex challenges, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across a range of sectors including transport, water, renewable energy, health and defence. Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in consultancy, business development, project leadership, and a passion for mentoring junior team members.

In this role, you will lead, design and deliver medium to large communications and engagement strategies for major infrastructure projects, across multiple phases of the project lifecycle – from business case approval and concept design, to planning approvals and delivery.

Our communications and engagement specialists partner with our clients, and our Jacobs colleagues, to design, deliver and evaluate communications and engagement approaches for infrastructure, sustainability and environmental initiatives. We hold certification from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), and are committed to delivering international best practice approaches to stakeholder and community engagement.

As a skilled mid-career consultant you will:

  • Lead the preparation and implementation of medium to large scale, complex, and contentious, communications and engagement plans.
  • Develop high-quality communications to support engagement programs.
  • Facilitate stakeholder and community engagement activities, such as workshops, focus groups, information sessions and online webinars.
  • Work closely with project managers, technical specialists and other team members to deliver project outcomes.
  • Proactively manage project budgets and resourcing, demonstrating commercial acumen and strong attention to detail.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff to improve their technical and consultancy skills.
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with clients and ensure exceptional client delivery.
  • Collaborate with other ANZ leaders to support the growth of our communications and engagement services across ANZ, including contributing to work opportunities, innovation and building positive team culture.
  • Lead the development proposals and other business development tasks, including the pursuit of opportunities with new clients.

Here's what you'll need

  • A relevant degree qualification, typically in social sciences, the arts, planning or related field.
  • Demonstrated participation in the industry, including membership and interest in a professional organisation such as IAP2.
  • More than eight years' relevant experience working in communications and engagement, including previous consultancy experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading communications and engagement projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Government organisations, preferably at a Federal or State level.
  • A strategic mindset, appetite for growth and considered approach to relationship building.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, and an ability to balance business development, project delivery and client engagement.
  • An interest in building relationships and engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A collaborative and open manner, demonstrating high emotional intelligence and flexibility, considering how we can best nurture and support our talented people.
  • Strong alignment with Jacobs core values and business strategy.
