Product Manager - Lighting

Overview:

The Product Manager responsible for a variety of product and marketing activities including, but not limited to; initiating new product development, lifecycle management of product portfolio, creation and coordination of marketing literature, packaging, and merchandising. Additional responsibilities include initiating market research, organizing and recommending literature and product needs for various trade shows and events; attending trade shows and events; participating in strategic planning efforts; initiating and conducting special projects; and other similar duties necessary for the product and marketing activities of the Commercial – Government business.

 

What You’ll Do:  

  • Responsible for the strategic product direction for the Lighting category in the Commercial and Industrial markets, including, but not limited; to Law Enforcement/Military, Fire/EMS, Safety, etc.
  • Lead efforts in category related market research; create and maintain detailed competitor product reviews, advertising and marketing strategies. Conduct extensive competitive product research and benchmarking. Track trends through industry and social media platforms to devise product strategies on next generation product.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the assigned product category business and make recommendations on strategic direction into markets, product modifications and/or improvements based on market research, customer feedback, and information gained through sales team members. Lead product line reviews when appropriate.
  • Manage cost analysis efforts for new and current products as well as line extensions.
  • Work with internal and external resources to create and coordinate marketing support needs; including product literature, packaging, merchandising materials.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure advertising and marketing activities as assigned. Serve as day-to-day contact with internal/external shared services, agencies and vendors to ensure timely execution.
  • Monitor performance against budget objectives.
  • Actively supports Pelican’s Quality and Safety Objectives and contributes to the Quality and Safety Management Systems. 
  • Coordinate with Sales/Business Development on appraisal of authorized sales and marketing campaigns and/or special promotions versus planned goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Product Management – Commercial/Government.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

What You’ll Need:

  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in marketing or product management within the assigned product area required.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a Business, Marketing, or Technical field.
  • Able to use advanced features of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Knowledge of product management / strategic planning concepts, practices and techniques.
  • Must be able to travel 30% of the time; be flexible with work schedules and be available to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees and customers at all levels.  Must possess ability to facilitate and hold high level presentations.
  • Excellent teamwork and teambuilding skills with proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to identify problems, make recommendations, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the assigned budget and time frame as specified by the Director of Product Management – or the President – Commercial/Government Division.
