CO-OP Student - Architectural

Requisition ID: 21342  The Facility Services Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory complex in support of the research mission. It also furnishes the design, engineering, and construction needs of the Laboratory, addressing its ever-changing program requirements. The department's overarching goal is to provide prompt, quality service in a wide spectrum of responsibilities in compliance with state and federal codes, and manage many services that impact the workplace quality of life for the Laboratory's population.

Architectural Facilities Designer - COOP

This position will report to the Architectural/Planning lead. Working in a multi-disciplinary team environment, the Architectural Facilities Designer- COOP will assist in coordination of long and short term facilities engineering and planning goals. Responsibilities will include assisting staff for generating space renovations, as-builts, field measurements and verification. Successful candidate will also assist architectural, structural and interiors efforts as needed. Supports the Lead and Chief Engineer in all design initiatives including CAD and coordinates with all FSD Engineering department as required.




  • Enrollment in an accredited Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Facilities Management or closely related design field is required
  • Knowledge of and experience with principles and practices of architectural design, project planning studies and programming
  • Skill in investigation, research, and analysis
  • Skill in creative problem solving
  • Familiarity with building codes, construction methods and practices and understanding of the design process
  • Versatile designer in areas of architectural design, interiors, and specialty environments
  • Team oriented, organized, and ability to work with other design staff
  • Familiar with various furniture products
  • Skill in graphic presentation, including use of architectural design, graphic and photographic software applications (i.e. Autodesk & Google)
  • Excellent CAD skills utilizing latest AutoCad suite products including AMEP
  • Experience with 3D CAD representation, REVIT, Google Sketchup, or other rendering packages
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, InDesign, PhotoShop, and other professional office based production software tools
  • FM systems software desirable
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance required.
