Electrical hardware design engineers specific to the assigned project, local and remote

  

Essential Responsibilities:

 

  1. Develop, plan and manage the activities of a global design team consisting of electrical engineers to achieve project and product development milestones while achieving cost, performance and timing objectives.
  2. Assist the lead hardware engineer with the electrical hardware integration aspects of new product development programs.
  3. Analysis of the customer requirements and specifications and generate the appropriate work packages for the assigned engineers.
  4. Provide technical support to electrical engineers including BOM release and costing, block diagram development, new electrical component integration, and customer change request feasibility.
  5. Manage the hardware direct external interface to the program management, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, finance, and software teams for the assigned project.
  6. Represent the electrical hardware portion of the project at the team one meetings, report hardware status and collect hardware related action items.
  7. Assist the program management team with OEM customer interface regarding electrical hardware specific requirements clarification and issues.
  8. Assist the engineers with DFMEA analysis.
  9. Prepare technical reports and presentations for use with customers, Harman management, peers, and direct reports as necessary.
  10. Maintain hardware project status in high level management reporting system.
  11. Evaluation of relevant technology regarding requirements, market trends, and feasibility together with other engineering teams and procurement to ensure the best design and costs.
  12. Execution of technical special projects on behalf of the department supervisor.
  13. Travel, as required, to customer, supplier, and other Harman sites.

 

 

Skills Required:

 

  • Demonstrated self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced global automotive design and manufacturing environments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Expert background in the electrical design of automotive projects, specifically infotainment, telematics, safety, and ADAS products.
  • Familiarity with automotive functional safety requirements (ASIL, ISO 26262).
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and component datasheets.
  • Familiarity with PCB layout practices and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of DFM and DRBFM/DFMEA techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the automotive OEM product design and development process, including familiarity with EMC and environmental validation testing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to transition from theoretical to implementation based thinking.  Very strong analytical skills and detail oriented. 

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Language: Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required                                                                                                     
  • Education: BSEE, MSEE preferred
  • Experience:Minimum seven years related experience
  • Previous automotive OEM design experience would be extremely beneficial for this position. 
  • Alternately, previous audio component design experience would be beneficial. 
  • Organizational/management skills to manage timing plans and track team progress to milestones.
  • Certifications:None required. PMP would be beneficial.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 

  • Willingness to travel 15% of the time, including international destinations.
  • Willingness to work at the Harman Novi, MI Facility.
  • Willigness to submit to and successfully clear pre-employment drug screen and background checks.
