    The primary purpose of this position is to provide full technical and administrative Supervision for the Urgent Care Department. Incumbent shall assist with the operations of the Emergency Room and may occasionally assist with the operation of the outpatient clinic. The Urgent Care Department consists of a 7-bed Urgent Care Unit with a minor procedure, optometry and OB/GYN rooms that provides approximately 16,000 outpatient visits annually, 12 hours per day, and 7 days a week. This position is located with the Urgent Care Department at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility in Chinle, Arizona.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervisory Functions: Supervises temporary and permanent employees in an efficient, equitable manner to insure quality and safe patient care; provides direction , instructions, and training in tasks, job techniques, and the use of specialty equipment.
    • Work Planning: Plans and adjusts work schedules and operations to meet organizational objectives, priorities, deadlines, and standards of care: assures nursing capabilities, staffing and equipment requirements to meet the work demands, safety requirements, and accreditation standards.
    • Develops an orientation plan for each employee specific to their skills and the needs of the unit and agency. Coordinates and assures that qualified staff is available as preceptors. Conducts meetings and conferences with subordinates and staff to explain work requirements, methods and procedures as needed.
    • Collaborates with all providers to establish unit objectives. Coordinates communication with multidisciplinary health care personnel in Performance Improvement activities. Performs employee performance with employee performance annually; develops work improvement process as needed and recommends training needs.
    • Maintains clinical competence and expertise in specialty area; provides skilled and comprehensive nursing care to patients. Participates in advanced cardiac trauma, pediatric, and neonatal advance life support.

    BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
    EDUCATION: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of the type of experience that will be credited are carrying out the duties of providing management in Nursing Services in planning, organizing, reviewing, evaluating and implementing all duties; supervises and provides direction; and evaluating the nursing needs of patient care.

    Licensure: Applicants must have possess active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. Knowledge of and skills in current professional nursing practices are required in the particular field of nursing for the position being filled.
    This position has been identified as a UFMS critical user for Level V, therefore, a background/security clearance is required upon appointment.
    Positive education is required for GS-12 grade level.

    SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL ABILTIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below:
    • Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training.
    • Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected with set limits of cost and time.
    • Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
    • Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work.
    • Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations.
    • Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
