Readjustment Counseling Assistant

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
    Establishes outreach services and provides transitional assistance program briefings to Military installations, Reserve, and National Guard facilities within a designated geographical area.
    Develops/distributes outreach materials.
    Provides training/ information to VA staff, other federal agencies and community agencies regarding both Vet Center services and the veteran experience.
    Develops/maintains working relationships with a network of service provision agencies and individuals in all areas relevant to returning servicemembers and their families.
    Organizes/participates in a myriad of community activities and events that have high probability of veterans present.
    Engages in a variety of community outreach activities that will promote knowledge of and use of Vet Center services(public speaking, professional presentations, information booths, liaison with community and government agencies, and interviews with the media).
    Works with local/regional media. Prepares/maintains administrative records/reports in accordance with program guidelines/policies;implements legal/ethical standard of conduct, privacy, and confidentiality.
    Conducts interviews and counseling with clients and families and provides psychological assessment and treatment to clients and their families.
    Readjustment counseling interventions include crisis intervention and both short and long-term services.
    Refers clients to other programs and professionals, as needed.
    Provides consultation to other team members conducting interviews, counseling and therapy.
    Refers cases requiring outpatient or inpatient treatment to the VA Medical Center or Outpatient Clinic.
    Personally conducts any or all of the following therapy programs: stress management; individual, group, conjoint and family therapy;biofeedback; relaxation training and other therapeutic intervention strategies. Participates in conjoint emergency treatment with medical facility mental health personnel.
    Other duties as assigned.Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm.

    This medical center operates 24 hours, seven days per week and you may be required to work days, evenings, nights, holidays, and or weekends, to include modification in shifts and/or tours of duty, to meet medical center and patient care needs.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
    Must be a Status Eligible Candidate to apply.
    For this position you must have one of the following Education: Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to a Readjustment Counseling Specialist. A copy of transcripts must be submitted with your application.
    ~ OR~
    Experience: Appropriate experience in position that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
    ~ OR~
    Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. A copy of transcripts must be submitted with your application.

    GRADE DETERMINATION:
    GS-05 Qualification
    Experience: Candidates must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience in serving as the principle outreach staff member for the Military, Reserve, and National Guard members returning from the Global War on Terrorism (GWoT), Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. At this grade, specific supervisory direction will be provided, and under evaluation.
    Or;
    Education: Candidate must have BA degree in related field.

    GS-06 Qualification

    Experience: Candidate must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience in serving as the principle outreach staff member for the Military, Reserve,and National Guard members returning from the Global War on Terrorism (GWoT),Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. At this grade,candidate is expected to independently perform essential duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision.
