Responsibilities

Serve as an acquisition specialist providing acquisition planning and support to National Security Space, civil and commercial customers with an emphasis on providing a sound basis for system operational and acquisition activities. This position is within the Acquisition Analysis and Information Department (AAID), which provides systems engineering and acquisition support for program planning and execution and is the corporate steward of the Acquisition Support and Systems Engineering Toolset (ASSET). AAID personnel collects, validate, manage, and leverage space and launch vehicle data with ASSET for data analytics and analyses, including anomaly and issue tracking, forecasting, and risk assessments. AAID subject matter experts (SMEs) provide front-end acquisition and systems engineering support to space, launch and ground programs and conduct studies & analyses that impact acquisition or programmatic decisions.

 

This position is available as an Aerospace Corporation Project Engineer or a Senior Project Engineer.

 

Key Functions 

 

  • Create and review acquisition documentation such as Acquisition Strategy Documents, RFPs, CDRLs, and PWSs, SOOs, and SOWs
  • Lead and/or conduct systems engineering and programmatic-related research and evaluation.
  • Provide independent, objective analysis of space vehicle, ground system, and launch system acquisition efforts.
  • Participate in a broad range of acquisition-related activities at all phases of life cycle maturity from concept definition, technology development, system development, through deployment.
  • Interface with a wide variety of customers and various subject matter experts, and translate technical input into programmatic risks for analysis. 
  • Monitor evolution of the DOD acquisition system and assist system program offices (SPOs) in developing efficient and effective acquisition strategies 
  • Provide systems engineering analysis and development support to Air Force and NRO SPOs
  • Coordinate, form and lead multidisciplinary assessment teams from the engineering and technology staff in support of SPOs.

Qualifications

Required

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Science
  • A strong background in Systems Engineering or Aquisition with at least 8 years of applicable experience in space systems development planning is required
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting early systems definition, architecture-level tradeoffs, project planning, requirements definition and program reviews for space and ground systems
  • Experience translating technical and programmatic information into acquisition risk assessments and providing guidance on acquisition approaches to avoid minimize acquisition risk
  • Experience in developing or assessing space system acquisition strategies 
  • Must be familiar with Systems Engineering processes and their application
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate/complete tasks, lead technical efforts and interact effectively with a broad range of organizations
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with all levels of customers, co-workers and contractors are required
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and able to manage multiple simultaneous tasks, including occasional business travel
  • U.S. Citizen, with the ability to obtain SECRET clearance (SCI clearance preferred)

  • An advanced degree in a related field
  • Technical or programmatic experience with MILSATCOM programs
  • Current SCI clearance

 

Qualification for Senior Project Engineer:

 

Required 

 

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Science 
  • A strong background in Systems Engineering or Aquisition with at least 12 years of applicable experience in space systems development planning
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting early systems definition, architecture-level tradeoffs, project planning, requirements definition and program reviews for space and ground systems
  • Experience translating technical and programmatic information into acquisition risk assessments and providing guidance on acquisition approaches to avoid minimize acquisition risk
  • Experience in developing or assessing space system acquisition strategies 
  • Experience with Systems Engineering processes and their application
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate/complete tasks, lead technical efforts and interact effectively with a broad range of organizations
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with all levels of customers, co-workers and contractors are required
