Fixed Equipment Engineer

Fixed Equipment Engineering personnel provide technical support to one or more of our Baytown Area manufacturing facilities (refinery, chemical, olefins, or plastics plant). Depending upon job position, the engineer will provide support for routine maintenance, turnaround, and project activities within the fixed (static) equipment discipline. Seeking qualified applicants for two job titles descriptions depending upon demonstrated experience and/or qualifications: Mechanical Contact Engineer and Lead Mechanical Engineer.

Job Description

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide the facility in Baytown, Texas with technical and operational expertise related to fixed equipment, such as pressure vessel and piping engineering.  Job incumbents will be responsible for interpreting and applying industry codes, company design standards and local maintenance procedures to pressure vessel and piping related repairs and fabrication.  In addition, incumbents will train and mentor mechanical contact engineers on engineering issues and standards.  The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following:

Daily Manufacturing Support

  • Provide cross-functional leadership across Operation, Maintenance, and Technical team to identify and address metallurgical and mechanical related issues affecting manufacturing process unit reliability.
  • Lead fixed equipment maintenance support to identify the causes and solutions to mechanically orientated problems.
  • Provide fixed equipment engineering guidance to mechanical related repairs on pressure vessels and piping.
  • Acquire good working knowledge of assigned process units.

Small Capital Project Design

  • Lead Operation, Maintenance, and Technical team to define project scope.  Provide guidance on industry codes and design practices to accurately estimate project cost and timeline.
  • Review all fabrication drawings and engineering comments for projects associated with assigned manufacturing units.

Major Mechanical Downtime Support

  • Manage maintenance downtime engineering related items that are handled by third party engineering firm.
  • Lead mechanical engineering support for unit extended downtimes during both planning and execution phases.

Job Requirements

  • Required B.S. (or higher) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ASME Section VIII Div. 1, ASME B31.3, API 570 and API 510.
  • Demonstrated work experience with chemical or refinery process units.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
