Bechtel is designing, constructing and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.  

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.  

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.  

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

 

Role Overview

  • Provide direction to Construction procedures personnel assessing daily work activities and shifting priorities as needed.
  • Ensure procedures/guides and various other Construction related documentation are updated in a consistent manner while maintaining upper tier requirements, and incorporated CR changes.
  • Ensure SWPP deviations meet appropriate requirements and are submitted to Bechtel Corporate appropriately ensuring proper project approvals are obtained.
  • Ensure Construction procedures personnel maintain current on training, are assigned the appropriate training, and are flowed down appropriate training material as needed.
  • Ensures Construction related NTS/PAAA and DOE commitments are tracked and maintained, requesting changes as required.
  • Proofread, edit, and coordinate the production of simple to moderately complex documents.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare, and distribute notices, agendas, information packets, and minutes for procedure/guide review meetings.
  • Perform and/or assist with various CAMP program activities.
  • Perform CAMP Administrative responsibilities, as requested.
  • Ability to become proficient in a variety of software programs (e.g., DevonWay, DOORS)
  • Perform duties as assigned by Construction Management.
  • Communicate with both construction and non-construction personnel to obtain deliverables associated with construction documents and facilitate resolution of identified issues.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university and 6 years of construction, engineering, technical writing, or other related experience or in lieu of a degree, 12 years of experience in construction, engineering, technical writing, or other related fields.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.  Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Safety Program and familiar with current industry standards
  • Skilled in business usage of the English language.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate tasks, work autonomously and complete work productively with attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment, knowledge of project specific requirements, general awareness of processes and procedures and familiarity with current industry quality standards.
  • Ability to independently anticipate problems in an environment of rapidly changing priorities.
  • Understanding of operation of Bechtel standard computerized systems and other information transmission and records applications.
