Production Planner

Chart's manufacturing group is critical to ensuring our products on time delivery and of the highest quality to our customers. The Production Planner will utilize prior experience in the development of production schedules resulting in an optimal balance of Customer Service and Manufacturing Capacity, production goals along with peers, Shift Managers, Contractors, Truck Drivers, and the Supervisors through the direction of Director of Operations. 


What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Data analysis and decision making to support raw material supply and finished goods demand.
  • Follow-up as required with all teams to expedite flow of materials and documents to meet production schedule and customer expectation.
  • Complete status reports for production progress, work in process, and raw material inventory.
  • Interacts with shop floor management on a daily basis to resolve issues regarding manufacturing efficiencies or additional information as needed.
  • Develops production schedules in accordance with sales forecast, plant and employee capacity, and new business opportunities.
  • Has responsibility to decide operation plan for made-to-stock or made-to-order.
  • Establish production schedules to meet customer demands, drive material requirements, and proactively set levels of production and non-production areas output.
  • Lead the master production schedule and ensure a consistent handoff of planning information to the production work cells to support effective start date management and production control.
  • Communicate across multiple departments and sites to effectively coordinate operations between manufacturing production and sales.
  • Review and ensure that the production requirement dates and customer delivery schedules are in sync.
  • Scheduling work can be highly independent of other departments but acts as a critical bridge / conduit between the plant and the office.
  • Highlight significant issues of delayed customer shipments, production problems, inventory shortages and current status to management daily.
  • Coordinate solutions to any schedule issues with production control and operations team to ensure on-time delivery of product.
  • Facilitate daily production meetings to supply information on the status of material and provide ship dates.
  • Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and report findings to management.
  • Work closely with Receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrived and electronically received correctly into system.
  • Maintain surveillance over inventory to assure good asset management and sufficient inventory to satisfy company production and sales effort.
  • Study work flow and sequence of operations in the department and recommend process improvements.
  • May be asked to perform other duties at a lower level or higher level of proficiency.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • Minimum of 1 year in steel manufacturing shop experience preferred.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Flexibility; able to switch gears quickly in a fast paced environment
  • Professional email and phone etiquette
  • Experience cycle counting, inventory control, and root cause analysis
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Ability to multi task
  • Ability to work independently without supervision


Your Education Should Be…

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Work Experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasional repetitive lifting up to 60 lbs as regular daily activities necessitate.
  • Handle or feel objects.
  • Tools or controls and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
