Manager, Maintenance Services

 

We are recruiting for a Manager, Maintenance Services for our Cambridge, ON facility.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

To manage the Maintenance Service personnel and work which includes managing the cost centre, meeting financial targets, improving processes and other activities aimed at meeting Operations Services’ business objectives.  This position reports to the Manager, Field Operations.  Direct reports have background in mechanical, machining, electrical and welding technology where work scope includes, but is not limited to, PHT Feeder Replacement, Boiler Primary Side Tube Plugging, Boiler Secondary Side waterlancing, Boiler Access Port Machining, Electrical/Audio/Video/Computer/Network System installation and maintenance.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Staff Management – Maintenance Services Personnel
 

  • Develop and maintain an organization of personnel capable of executing Operations Services proposed and planned projects.
  • Administer compensation, including salary and hourly increases, annual bonuses, and promotions in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Set goals, maintain metrics, review performance and recognize achievements.  Seek input from project/site managers with respect to performance.
  • Select, train, and develop quality personnel from within the group to be first line supervisors of field teams.
  • Develop teams to obtain and grow maintenance work at all Ontario Nuclear Sites as well as other CANDU nuclear plants outside of Ontario and Canada.
  • Ensure that all personnel are adequately trained and qualified to perform required duties, with a particular emphasis on safety and quality training and qualifications.
  • Assign personnel to projects.
  • Develop a working relationship with the business unit managers of the local craft labour union halls.
  • Implementation/enforcement of safety programs, incident investigation, training, etc.


Cost Centre Management
 

  • Prepare cost centre budgets and absorption forecasts on a quarterly basis.
  • Monitor and control all cost centre expenses.  Compare actual expenses to forecasts and conduct variance analyses as necessary.
  • Achieve approved net expense targets for cost centre.  Minimize expenses and maximize absorption for group.
  • Maintain a cost centre structure for the Maintenance Services group that permits determination of hourly cost rates for all key disciplines within the group.

 

Continuous Improvement
 

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for Maintenance Service activities, including feeder work, equipment maintenance, field supervision, etc.
  • Achieve continuous improvement of such procedures/processes through the incorporation of lessons learned, corrective actions that result from audits or events, conduct root cause analysis, customer feedback, etc.
  • Develop QA manual Supplements where required to perform general maintenance work at Nuclear Sites.

 

Field Equipment Management
 

  • Purchase and maintain equipment required to achieve business objectives.
  • Prepare business cases and applications for capital expenditures for equipment required to support operations (e.g. enhanced feeder tooling).

 

Proposal/Project Support
 

  • Provide input to Proposal Management and the Operations Services Cost Estimating and Planning group on scope definitions, proposal technical descriptions, cost estimates, plans and schedules for all field operation activities, including being responsible for the structure of the field execution teams.
  • Review technical specifications, requests for quotes, proposals and cost estimates.
  • Participate in pricing approval request meetings when required.
  • Support project management in the development of project execution plans for Maintenance Services, including being accountable for the development of roles and responsibilities for all field personnel.
  • Assist with the resolution of technical issues related to field processes.
  • Identify and manage R&D/capital expenditures.
  • Define R&D and capital equipment requirements for growing the OS Maintenance business.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Engineering or science degree or a technical college diploma with a minimum of 10 years related experience.
  • Technical understanding of power industry in general and specific knowledge of BWXT Canada’s nuclear service technologies.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety standards and legislation.
  • Experience with effective coaching, leadership, team building, problem solving and decision making.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively influence others.
