About the Job


Position Overview:
This position, initially with a 12-month appointment, involves assistance in conducting research on auditory and speech perception in people with normal and impaired hearing. Experimental methods include behavior (psychoacoustics) and electroencephalography (EEG).

Job Responsibilities:
(50%) Collect data.
* Explain to participants the tasks they are about to complete.
* Set up the EEG equipment, and fit cap to participant, if applicable.
* Ensure participants are comfortable in the booth before starting the experiment.
* Monitor data collection as the experiment progresses.
* Ensure data collection is completed in an ethnically, scientifically rigorous, and timely manner.

(25%) Recruit research participants and manage their progression through a research protocol
* Recruit research participants leveraging lab database, flyers, and email listservs. Develop innovative and individualized strategies for hard-to-recruit participants.
* Contact and encourage current and potential new research participants to engage in a research protocol. Describe study goals, assessment tasks, confidentiality limitations and potential risks. Understand the scientific goals and significance of the study and explain those goals to participants and others in ways that they will understand and find engaging.
* Schedule research participants' visits and arrange associated logistical support (e.g., payment, parking). Remind participants of their upcoming appointment.
* Greet participants and describe study procedures thoroughly.
* Obtain informed consent, enrollment, and registration.
* Ensure recruitment is completed in an ethical, scientifically rigorous, and timely manner.

(15%) Analyze data
* Assist in analyzing data from the experiments, including statistical analysis using packages such as R and Matlab.
* Ensure accuracy and integrity of data.
* Prepare graphic visualizations of the data for dissemination/publication of research findings.

(10%) Compliance and safety
* Ensure compliance with related safety regulations and lab specific protocols. Assist with updating related documentation, as needed.
* Participate in meetings with supervisors and general lab meetings to discuss research progress and findings, problem solve, and build community. Discuss compliance with research protocols and safety procedures.


Qualifications


Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS degree in Neuroscience or related field, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 4 years
* At least one year of full-time laboratory experience in the area of auditory perception and neuroscience
* Experience setting up and running auditory EEG experiments
* Experience with the R programming environment

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in running experiments in a Matlab environment
* Knowledge of and experience in using Redcap for participant data management
