Principal Legal Officer The Trustee for the Byrne No. 2 Trust Exciting opportunity as a Principal Legal Officer to make a significant impact and influence law reform in Department of Justice and Attorney-General
Strategic Policy and Legislation (SPL) has wide reaching legislative responsibilities that support the operation of Queensland’s justice system. SPL has teams that focus on specific aspects of policy and legislation, as well as some specialist project teams. The Civil Law teams focus on civil, public and administrative law issues including human rights, courts legislation, domestic and family violence and child protection, guardianship and administration; privacy and right to information, civil liability and property, trust and succession law. The Principal Legal Officer will be placed in a policy and legislation team focused on civil law having regard to SPL’s business needs.
By working with us you will be part of a team that has a crucial role to lead legislative and policy projects in relation to civil, public and administrative law issues to progress the Government’s law reform program. To be successful, you will apply your research and writing skills to draft or oversee the drafting of a range of high-level documents about complex legislative and policy issues for a variety of audiences, including the Minister and Parliament. You will represent the department appearing as a witness in Parliamentary Committee hearings on portfolio bills and will also supervises other team members in the team.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Employment Law Group (ELG) seeks an experienced employment attorney. ELG provides legal support to all divisions across the firm. ELG is responsible for all employment related litigation, including regulatory matters. Working closely with the Human Capital Management (HCM) Division, ELG provides advice and strategic input to the handling of employee relations matters as well as providing support and advice in relation to (among other things) the firm's benefits and mobility programs, diversity, recruitment, compensation, performance assessment, restructurings, acquisitions and divestitures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Handling employment-related disputes, including managing external counsel where appropriate and coordinating with internal teams including employee relations, HCM business partners, business managers and firm leadership

Reviewing and monitoring employment law developments in areas of coverage and addressing potential impact on the firm's HCM strategy
