POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for providing high quality, cost-effective, and evidence based medical care to the hospitalized patients as well as providing support to our surgical and specialty services through consultative general medicine practice. The Hospitalist is responsible for coordinating care for patients at discharge, and facilitating hand-off to the outpatient physician.
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the administrative and clinical aspects of the hospitalist program.

Formal Education / Training:
Workplace Experience:
Patient Care Delivery Systems in acute care settings to include floors, Critical Care Units, Emergency Department.
Equipment and Skills Training:
Standard patient care equipment for services provided. The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently, and to be flexible in applying medical knowledge to a variety of situations. General equipment to area and Network computer system, Meditech Computer System.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education / Training:
- Current licensure by the State of Tennessee as a medical doctor or osteopathic physician.
- Current DEA number.
- Able to demonstrate leadership, managerial ability, good interpersonal relationship, and apply sound administrative principles.
- Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Current ACLS certification.

- Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
- Able to stand/sit/work for up to eight hours a day.
- Able to lift/move up to 25 lbs.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Responsible for the assessment, evaluation and clinical management of patients. Administers these clinical services in order to provide the level of care required by current clinical standards and operational efficiency.
- Provides active management of patient's condition through diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic medical services. Performs histories and physical examinations.
- Works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to determine the best care plan for the hospitalized patient and initiates/oversees plans to meet the patient's needs.
- Facilitates timely admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
- Provides information, education, and support to patient and the patient's family members. Includes the patient and their family in care planning.
- Prescribes or recommends pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, including controlled medications.
- Consults appropriate physician(s) for patient care needs.
- Refers patients to appropriate sources of care as required. Assures appropriate and timely referrals to a tertiary care facility, as indicated.
- Communicates with the primary care physician or specialist as needed during admission, and at discharge for optimal continuum of care.
- Participates in the achievement of patient safety goals, quality measures, clinical outcomes, and financial performance consistent with Williamson Health objectives in such areas as clinical documentation, coding, timely charge entry, and order set development and revision. Assures the efficient utilization of resources while supporting clinical pathway implementation and compliance.
- Attends and participates in the hospital's Medicine Committee and Hospitalist Program Committee.
- Insures that cordial relationships are maintained with patients, their families and friends, clergy and other interested groups in the community. Interprets the objectives of the Hospitalist Service to the community. Responds timely to patient complaints.
- Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, hospital conferences, and home study.
- Assists in maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations such as Joint Commission and CMS Conditions of Participation.
