JOB SUMMARY

Rail Service & Operations Planner:
Determines effectiveness of existing and potential services in meeting expectations of target markets. Analyzes new transit operating scenarios and implements approved service plans; identifies service plan operating details that require updating. Refines operating details and service requirements. Prepares service schedules and vehicle/operator assignments. Provides necessary changes to schedules and operator assignments for all construction phasing and responds to special service events, both scheduled and unscheduled. Assists with project management activities to improve service for UTAs customers and to maximize efficiency. Acts as a key interface between bus and rail service and operation planning.

Rail Service & Operations Sr. Planner:
Leads staff to determine effectiveness of existing and potential services in meeting expectations of target markets. Leads out in analyzing new transit operating scenarios; implements approved service plans and identifies service plan operating details that require updating. Leads in refining operating details and service requirements. Prepares service schedules and vehicle and operator assignments. Leads in providing necessary changes to schedules and operator assignments for all construction phasing and responding to all special service events, both scheduled and unscheduled. Assists with project management activities to improve service for UTAs customers and to maximize efficiency. Acts as a key interface between bus and rail service and operation planning. May supervise work of entry level staff. Trains entry level planning team members.

This is a career-ladder position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Bachelors Degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Business, Math or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Rail Service & Operations Planner:

Minimum of three years related planning experience, with one of those years in transit planning. Rail transit planning preferred.


Rail Service & Operations Sr. Planner:

Minimum of four years related planning experience, with two of those years in rail transit planning.


Knowledge of:

  • Statistical and database software.
  • Relationship between land use/urban design and transit and building connecting routes.
  • Intermediate knowledge of TRAPEZE software program.

Skills:

  • Intermediate level proficiency in MS Word and advanced level proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Basic understanding of project management techniques.

Ability to:

  • Perform statistical analyses.
  • Work cooperatively with customers and the general public under all circumstances in a professional manner.
  • Work independently and as a team member.
  • Think analytically and perform detailed work.
  • Determine the most efficient distribution of limited resources.
  • Apply new and creative ideas to solve problems.
  • Occasionally work different shifts.

Valid Utah drivers license is required.

This job requires regular and predictable attendance.

Pay Rate:
Rail Service & Operations Planner: $62,500 annually
Rail Service & Operations Sr. Planner:$70,500 annually
