Seaward Services is seeking a Master for offshore wind Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) near Norfolk VA.

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

Seaward Services seeks an experienced Captain to take the helm on one of our new Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV), which will service wind turbines off the Mid-Atlantic coast. Your primary area of operation will be the waters in and around PA, DE, DC, MD, VA, NC, where you will transport crew, equipment, and cargo to turbines throughout the wind farm.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate vessel in accordance with all United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations, COLREGs, FCC, Class Society, internal Seaward guidelines and other pertinent regulatory agencies.
  • Provide the highest standards of operation , remaining fully aware of multiple issues such as wake generation and mitigation, vessel traffic, sea conditions, visibility and other environmental factors.
  • Command vessel in a manner appropriate to vessel characteristics and in response to weather and sea conditions, ensuring safe and efficient operations while working in a demanding offshore wind environment.
  • Maintain vessel integrity to support safety and a consistent state of operational readiness.
  • Perform all required pre-departure and disembarkation duties as outlined by company policy.
  • Perform all vessel underway duties as outlined by company policy.
  • Update and maintain all required navigational charts and electronic charts for service routes.
  • Execute safe mooring of the vessel in accordance with safety guidelines and requirements and in appropriate response to weather, visibility, and current conditions
  • Support onboard training in an offshore wind environment; including personnel transfer, heavy traffic navigation, STS bunker operations, rigging at sea, and various other offshore wind farm related elements.
  • Be available for a 2-week rotational schedule which requires eating, sleeping and living onboard the vessel
  • Operate in a manner that safely satisfies contractual and client requirements and needs.
  • Compile, review and maintain all vessel logs, reports and forms as required by law and company policy.
  • Ensure compliance with vessels ISO certification. Ensure the program is functioning, internal/external audits are conducted and the QMS is followed.
  • Maintain and update Operations Manual and SMS documents in consultation with Operations Manager or Senior Project Manager.
  • Serve as onboard Risk Manager and take corrective actions per company policy and as critical situations require.
  • Ensure the vessel has adequate stores, provisions, and required spare parts to support extended offshore operations.
  • Maintain consistent communication between onboard personnel and ashore management.
  • Ensure all crew has access to HR and the DPA.
  • Cultivate and manage a harassment-free, inclusive work environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and promote safety through example to junior level crew.
  • Ensure that all crew and non-crew onboard have received safety training in accordance with USCG requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Conduct drills with marine and non-marine crew as mandated by company policy and regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits both as mandated by company policy and as circumstances require. Supervise the implementation of corrective actions provided from any safety audits.
  • Ensure all operations comply with the Safety Management System and all class required SMS audits.
  • Ensure the vessel operates with a positive safety culture.
  • Schedule mariners when necessary to ensure that proper manning levels are maintained and that pertinent laws, regulations and guidelines are followed e.g. proper credentialing, licensing, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with STCW work / rest hours.
  • Guarantee that performance and behavior of Officers and crew meet legal and professional requirements.
  • Provide discipline for infractions of policy by crewmembers in consultation with the Operations Manager or Project Manager.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential (MMC) with a 200-ton Near Coastal Master endorsement or greater
  • STCW 95 and the following STCW endorsements: II/4, IV/2, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3, VI/4, VI/5, and VI/6
  • GMDSS
  • ECDIS
  • RFPNW
  • VPDSD
  • Radar Endorsement with ARPA
  • Post hire - Be ability to obtain and maintain GWO Sea Survival and GWO Lift (Crane) Certifications
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Copy of DD Form 214, if Veteran Status
  • Five (5) years of experience as a licensed Master on a 100-ton vessel (or greater) in near coastal or ocean service demonstrating ship handling responsibilities in similar operating conditions
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems and procedures
  • Offshore Wind - Crew Transfer Vessel experience desired
  • Excellent career record in the marine industry
Salary Range: $600 - $650 / day
