Designs, develops, and evaluates energy related projects to reduce energy costs or improve energy efficiency. Conducts energy audits and monitors energy consumption. Responsible for the implementation and continuance of energy conservation programs.

Duties

  • Manages the development and design of a campus energy conservation plan as well as projects to pursue targeted reduction goals. Identifies energy savings opportunities and recommends to management methods or practices to achieve more energy efficient operations.
  • Collects and analyzes building energy data from utility bills, building surveys, and other data to determine energy use and cost.
  • Conducts regular walk-through audits of campus facilities to ensure operating efficiency, optimum  building environment, and compliance with energy guidelines. Report findings in accordance with program procedures.
  • Assesses current operations and maintenance practices and recommends new operating procedures for the designated staff.
  • Communicates with facility coordinators, maintenance and custodial managers and staffs as to the status of their building’s energy consumption.
  • Coordinates with facilities scheduling personnel for meeting rooms, conference space, and laboratories to ensure proper space utilization consistent with energy conservation.
  • Develops and implements weekday, weekend, holiday, and summer shutdown checklists for campus buildings. Review checklists with management.
  • Monitors state and national energy policy trends, including grant opportunities.
  • Reviews architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to ensure future equipment upgrades, new construction, building modifications or other projects are energy efficient and in compliance with the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP).
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements - - -

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Facilities Management; Mechanical Engineering Technology; Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering; or related field, AND

  • 24 months experience in energy monitoring and conservation of buildings HVAC, electrical and controls systems or related field. 

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 72 months related experience.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of state energy conservation laws and regulations.
  • Highly proficient in Data Analytics and Microsoft Excel or other database software.
  • Knowledge of human psychology and able to positively influence the energy saving behavioral habits of staff, faculty and students.
  • Proficient in Project Management.
  • Knowledge of building systems and behavioral energy savings opportunities
  • Ability to gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems and suggest solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, interpersonal, communication, and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Ability to multi-task, handle stressful situations, and meet deadlines
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365

Working Conditions:

  • Physical : Sit for prolonged periods. Walk, talk, stand, and reach. Communicate effectively.
  • Environmental : Standard Office Environment. Exposure to weather conditions.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Energy audit experience
  • Familiarity with Niagara (R2, AX, N4) and Automated Logic ( WebCTRL ) building controls
  • Proficient in performing cost and savings studies associated with implemented energy conservation measures.
  • Experience with retro commissioning , LED lighting upgrades and the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP).
  • Project management experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Facilities management experience within a multi-facility complex of classroom, lab-based research space, patient care facilities, and administration space.
