Data Scientist, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) Researcher - ONSITE Location: Army Cyber Institute, West Point, NY 10996 BluePath Labs is looking for a mid-level data scientist with experience in AI and ML to support our team at the Army Cyber Institute (ACI) in West Point, NY. This effort will have direct operational relevance. The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of successfully working in a collaborative environment. They will be working with leading Army researchers and programs and partners throughout the US Government. This position will start immediately. Responsibilities: Conducting advanced research and analyses using techniques from data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) for the Army Cyber community. Work both alone and as part of a team with other researchers, developers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality data-centric, decision-driven insights, analytics, algorithms, and models. Perform exploratory data analysis, munging, cleaning, and labeling on both structured and unstructured data. Design, develop, implement, and evaluate statistical AI/ML algorithms/models for various tasks using multiple data types (text, tabular, time series, image, logs, etc.). Comfortable working with on-premises and cloud-native environments for the discovery, extraction, and analysis of patterns/trends to gather, process, and derive valuable insights needed to build and deliver AI/ML-enabled capabilities. Assist in the writing of scholarly manuscripts along with future research project white papers and proposals, making positive scholarly contributions that are of mutual interest with the USMA Principal Investigator, and productively interact with research collaborators within the ACI, across USMA, and with external partners. Required Qualifications: Master's degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, data science, operations research, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, industrial/systems engineering, or a related field. 3-5 years professional experience in data science work. Proficiency in data science-related programming languages (Python, R, Julia, Matlab, etc.) Experience designing and querying relational and non-relational databases (SQL, NoSQL, vector, time-series, etc.). Familiarity with Ubuntu Linux. U.S. or Five Eyes national citizenship. Ability to obtain a DoD secret level clearance. Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of computer and network security principles, datasets, and tools is preferred. Knowledge of advanced AI/ML techniques such as deep neural networks, foundation models (LLMs, VLMs, etc.), reinforcement learning, evolutionary computation, etc. and AI/ML frameworks (Sklearn, TensorFlow, Keras, pyTorch, etc.) is preferred. Knowledge of AI/ML application tasks such as computer vision, natural language processing, search and optimization, and knowledge representation/reasoning is preferred. Previous research experience demonstrated by published peer-reviewed papers and programming code repositories is preferred. The selected individual should be articulate, adaptable, and able to work with a variety of researchers, developers, analysts, and professionals in academia, government, and industry. The individual must possess the ability to (a) communicate equally well to lay audience and experts in the field, both written and orally; (b) analyze research results in a field and draw conclusions about the efficacy of methods outlined; (c) review proposals (from other agencies); and (d) carry out literature surveys and write reports on the status of a sub-field. Skills may be demonstrated by appropriate graduate-level coursework, or independent research experience with documented output in the form of reports, conference papers, or journal articles. Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position will be $80,000-$120,000, commensurate with experience.
