Job Description

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Audio/Visual Analyst. This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Manager of Audio/Visual Operations, Client Services. The position will be located in Las Vegas, or Reno, Nevada.

The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions: two universities, a state college, four community colleges and a research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience growth with significant challenges and opportunities in serving over 105,000 students and 15,000 employees.

This position will assist with producing, streaming, recording, monitoring, and editing for large, high-profile NSHE System Administration and Board of Regents events. The incumbent will also perform a wide range of work transporting, installing, testing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex audio/video and data network technologies, including routers, switches, video codecs, videoconferencing bridges, microphone and sound systems, video production boards, projectors, and a variety of electronic media equipment.

The incumbent will also provide moderate level network technical support services as required. Successful performance of the work requires a good knowledge of data and audio/video communication network design and maintenance and the ability to exercise sound judgment within established guidelines.

The incumbent also provides off-hours support for academic and administrative videoconferences, distance education, Board and related event activity, and operational support for SCS Services and functions.

GRADE: C (starting salary range approximately $65,000 - $75,000) Benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life and retirement.

APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: June 15, 2024

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A successful candidate must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a degree in a technical discipline, such as Electronics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Audio, Electrical or Communications/Network Engineering is preferred with two (2) years of direct work experience relating to data, video and/or voice communications systems/networks is required. Alternatively, four (4) years of direct work experience relating to data, video and/or voice communications systems/networks coupled with at least two years of formal education or training in a related field may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree as qualification for this position.

Travel statewide will also be required as necessary to gather information needed for technical analysis and/or preventive maintenance activities necessary to accomplish the desired objectives. Travel both inside and outside the State of Nevada will also be required from time to time in order to attend training, or to represent SCS at conferences and administrative meetings. Since a portion of this travel may be by motor vehicle, the incumbent will be required to have a valid Nevada driver's license.

The position is expected to work dedicated alternating support shifts. The expected hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, these hours are subject to change including a shared on-call rotation shift and subject to weekend and holiday work to meet deliverables.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Successful candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants should address following items in their letter of application:
  • Familiarity with network fundamentals
  • Understanding of audio/visual production essentials and capacity to understand standard practices and procedures of delivering A/V services
  • Capacity to research, test, and provide basic analysis of relevant new technologies, tools, and methodologies
  • Skilled in the use of common business software (e.g. Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) Certification provided by InfoComm or ability to obtain certification within two (2) years of appointment
  • Ability to become skilled at reading and interpreting schematics and manuals (i.e. electrical, electronic, digital logic, installation and wiring diagrams)
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply work procedures associated with networks and network security practices, routing and routed protocols, video codec configurations, video scheduling and control systems, local and carrier networks, and audio/visual production
  • Ability to become skilled at operating and maintaining audiovisual equipment and advise on the use of electronic media and audiovisual equipment
  • Ability to work outside of standard business hours and travel statewide
  • Ability to safely move and relocate objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and professionally in a collaborative team environment
  • Capacity to work and be productive independently
  • Readiness to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with VIPs, customers, and co-workers


RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of responsibility within Client Services:
  • Installs, tests, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and performs preventative maintenance activities in support of NSHE's statewide video and data network
  • Monitors NSHE video/voice/data performance to ensure overall network quality and availability
  • Technical support for NSHE statewide video network (NevadaNet), System Computing Services and System Administration's Video Conference Board/Conference room Audio/Visual Systems.
  • Technical Audio/Visual Productions and Support for various Board of Regents and System Administration meetings, including setup/breakdown, transport, and A/V production
  • Collaborates with network end users for the purpose of assessing, implementing and training for ongoing customer video network requirements
  • Documents network and A/V systems topologies, asset inventories, technical, or historical documentation requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
