Job Description
Organization Description
Anchorage Community Land Trust (ACLT) is a neighborhood-based non-profit in Anchorage that works with residents and business owners in targeted geographies to improve quality of life in their communities. For 20 years, ACLT has been disrupting concentrated poverty in Anchorage by making concentrated investments. ACLT’s investments are in targeted neighborhoods and are high impact, community-vetted and anchored in partnership. ACLT’s services fall into four core categories:
Real Estate: ACLT owns transformative properties, connects entrepreneurs to real estate, and invests in our neighborhood commercial corridors.
Organizing: ACLT works with neighbors to create grassroots networks and act as an advocate for issues that matter to our communities.
Neighborhood Improvements: ACLT works with neighbors to rejuvenate and invest in the spaces important to our communities.
Targeted Programs: ACLT runs high-impact programming grounded in our neighborhoods that aims to stand behind residents and address poverty and inequity. ACLT's flagship program is Set Up Shop, a program to empower neighborhood entrepreneurs to build the businesses of their dreams through a pipeline of services: training, technical assistance, lending, and real estate support. ACLT also operates Grow North Farm in partnership with Catholic Social Services, Anchorage's urban farm and marketplace for emerging food-based businesses.
ACLT has long empowered residents in its target neighborhoods to be the leaders of their community’s next steps. ACLT knows its neighborhoods deeply, and our earned trust allows our place-based initiatives to succeed. ACLT fills gaps and covers needs in grassroots community and economic development that no one else in Anchorage does. By supporting business creation, resident leadership, and better infrastructure, we build neighborhoods from within, and reverse the cycle of generational poverty. For more information, visit
Position Description
ACLT’s Set Up Shop program helps entrepreneurs and business owners in underserved communities to launch and grow their businesses with holistic support. Program services include training and workshops, business services, lending, and real estate assistance. ACLT is seeking a Program Associate with strong project management and communication skills to join our team of Business Services staff, who are responsible for helping neighborhood entrepreneurs take next steps to achieve their goals. The Associate focuses on supporting priority clients who are entrepreneurs accessing capital or launching their shop in a neighborhood brick and mortar location. This staff member would track, monitor and deliver assistance to these entrepreneurs, as well as support the needs of the programs department overall. They will coach businesses directly, source consulting support from their colleagues, and also pair clients with external professionals contracted for specific business expertise when needed. They will steward relationships with these contractors, who are members of our technical assistance provider list, and work to utilize them effectively and find new ones as needed. Additionally, this position will lead programming to generally support clients, from holding educational workshops to teaching occasionally in our training classes, and projects like business research or writing. The Associate will be responsible to speak about programs to community partners or the public, including presentations or outreach tabling at events. Periodically each year, team members may travel to other Alaska regions or cities within the U.S. for programming or professional development. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. The Program Associate operates within the Programs Department, collaborates closely with every Programs Department team member, and reports to the Program Manager.

Handle requests for information about the lending services.
Lead communication about our clients working with our lending partners.
Convene with lending partner staff to move forward the goals of our partnership.
Arrange education or technical assistance to meet the needs of clients pursuing lending, as well as helping them with their applications directly.
Develop and deliver programming like classes and workshops that begin to intervene in the financial barriers further upstream before entrepreneurs prepare to access capital for their business, and help them access holistic personal finance support.
Assist neighborhood brick and mortar shops
Develop and deliver programming like outreach, classes and workshops targeting the needs of ACLT’s highest priority clients – these include existing shops in our target neighborhoods, and businesses launching into physical spaces.
Work with staff to develop measures of impact for our real estate programming and adopt a system to collect data regularly.
Organize the planning, discussion, and implementation of the ACLT Strategic Plan 2024-2027 item to define our practice of real estate as an organization.
Provide business services (AKA “technical assistance” or TA) programming and coordination
Organize and/or join intake meetings to capture clients’ needs, as well as meeting with training graduates to evaluate their readiness and identify needs for continued Set Up Shop services. Follow up internally with appropriate staff and externally with the client for continuity in communication until a service provider or staff is assigned to help.
Handle requests for information about accessing the TA, lending, and real estate programs. May initiate conversations and offer those programs for clients flagged as high priority to work with.
Directly provide assistance to entrepreneurs in areas of expertise, and work to grow professionally the knowledge and skill sets that would help clients the most.
Work with staff to support the oversight of project tracking, monitoring, improving, and moving forward the operations of the Business Services program.
Responsible for the development of relationships with external technical assistance contractors, and encouraging the full utilization of them when client projects arise.

Preferred Knowledge or Skills:

They are able to take a message or summarize an interaction and communicate it to both our staff and the client clearly and without losing important details.

They strive to represent our work well by developing a reputation for reliability, responsiveness, and punctuality.
Strong organizational and project management skills: The ideal candidate can manage a list of 10-30 people with detail, and keep tabs on their status in program services, and oversee several projects on their plate at any given time. They are enthusiastic about getting to “next steps” and know how to organize their priorities. In time, they are capable of self-management. They are comfortable using a computer and software for standard office and data-tracking related tasks, in particular Zoom for teleconferencing, and Google Suite for file storage, calendar and email.
