General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The Senior Manager of Operations (SMO) is a key influencer at the location level to ensure the safe and efficient execution of all operational activities for the locations within their area of operations by our established policies and procedures. This position is responsible for ensuring the territory is meeting targets & implementing safe/efficient execution of best practices across operations activities Super Center locations and also meeting commercial needs for hub locations, where necessary.

Key Skills and Abilities Include:

  • Lead the territory in translating the One W-E strategy into tactical actions for Hub / Super Center leaders
  • Act as a results-driven leader who considers both commercial and operational lenses in decision-making
  • Partner closely with location leads and commercial counterparts to drive a culture of safety & compliance that features respect for employees, the public, & the environment
  • Instill a collaborative dynamic with Sales, EHSS, DOT, Finance, Manufacturing, etc.
  • Form close partnerships with other Operations / Commercial leaders to secure resources for continuous improvement
  • Deep understanding of operations and operational scheduling
  • Working knowledge of farm activities and ag inputs supply and utilization
  • Specific knowledge of how bulk fertilizer, chemicals, and seeds are stored, transported, handled, and applied
  • Create an environment for success: develop, train, mentor, and ensure capability for a high-performing team of leaders within the assigned territory
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and comply with safety and regulatory requirements
  • Data analytics experience preferred
  • Track record in defining and implementing process efficiencies
  • Prior people management experience; minimum of 5 years
  • Ability to travel; up to 50%

      Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

      • Promote a culture of safety and compliance, through territory EHSS requirements and initiatives, which feature respect for fellow employees, the public, and the environment
      • Ensure inventory control activities are maintained and optimized throughout the year, with an emphasis on inventory accuracy
      • Serve as SME for operational excellence to enable meeting customer needs (both internal & external) across the territory. Action on territory KPIs including, but not limited to working capital, cost, people, service, and safety
      • Take a holistic approach to implement operational & commercial excellence, with a particular focus on inventory control, EHSS, distribution, & continuous improvement
      • Challenge the status quo and seek out industry trends of operations best practices for territory improvement projects
      • Partner with other operations and commercial leaders within the territory to share best practices and expand the impact of operations improvements.
      • Create an environment for success: develop, train, mentor, and ensure capability for a high-performing team of leaders in the territory
      • Develop a feedback-oriented culture, and serve as a voice of Hub and Super Center location teams to leadership
      • Oversee all aspects of facility operations and collaborate with all leaders within the organizational structure to ensure optimal customer service
      • Set location goals and objectives that are aligned with the enterprise's strategic plan
      • Lead the annual operating budget process with partnership from all leaders within the territory, including capital expense requests. Manage to plan

      Compensation and Benefits:

      • In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $116,500 to $163,000. Note that salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, retirement plans, and other benefits.
