Job Title


Pregis is searching for a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op/Intern to operate out of our Aurora, IL location. This position reports to the Director of Engineering or Engineer Manager.


Job Summary



The Mechanical Engineering Co-op/Intern for Pregis Innovation Headquarters will be responsible for assisting engineers with product development, product improvements, and product testing. The candidate will support these functions across all of the functional groups within the facility but will be paired with a mentor in a specific functional group.



This role is either for a summer internship or for a cooperative education assignment (student works a minimum of two summers while taking one semester of classes off for a total of three work terms, ideally with two terms back to back).



Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Conduct studies on protective packaging machines and assist with continuous design improvement.

  • Develop, design and build new test fixtures as well as improve upon existing test fixtures to increase performance in some way (efficiency, cost, etc.).

  • Participate in design reviews, brainstorm sessions and product conceptualization as needed.

  • Accurately carry out data collection and documentation, as per test plan, with performance of various packaging types being tested.

  • Assist in interpreting and analyzing data. Compile information in MS Office by creating tables, graphs, and efficiently summarizing results and conclusions.

  • Process and evaluate R&D packaging materials for key customer performance metrics.

  • Assemble prototypes working with tools as needed.

  • Support various engineering best practices and process implementation.

Required Skills/Abilities



  • Ability to work hands on with projects in a research and development environment.

  • Problem solving mentality with ability to think creatively to troubleshoot machine issues, design constraints, and other roadblocks.

  • Familiarity with CAD (Solidworks preferred), firmware, software & electro-mechanical components is a plus.

  • Prior experience with tools, fixtures and data acquisition devices is a plus.

  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to partner with internal customers.

  • Must be detail orientated, have strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize.

  • A self-starter with excellent communication skills.



Education and Experience:




  • Minimum level of education and experience required

  • Candidate to have completed 4 semesters of coursework in Mechanical Engineering, with mechanical design coursework a plus.
