• Provides direct, safe, competent and high quality patient care in the Cardiology/Radiology department (Cath Lab). Assists in the performance of various invasive cardia and peripheral vascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Sustains a high level of patient care by communication with patients, families, physicians and co-workers to address the physical, general and psychosocial needs of the patient. Functions under the direction of the cardiologist/radiologist performing the procedure.



PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

• Minimum one year relevant experience, cath lab experience preferred.

• Previous med-surg/ICU experience is helpful.



TRAINING & EDUCATION NEEDED:

• Completion of an accredited program in applied or health science (including but not limited to cardiovascular technology, radiological technology, respiratory therapy, paramedic emergency medicine, RN or LPN).

• Current BLS certification.

• ACLS certification within 6 months of hire date.



FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



Key: Occasional (1-3 hours per day or <33%)

Frequent (3-7 hours per day or 33-66%) Constant (7 or more hours per day or >66%)



• Lifting:

Must be able to lift 40 lbs. from floor to waist on occ. basis



• Standing/Walking/Sitting:

Must be able to stand 1-3 hrs.

Must be able to sit 5-8 hrs.

Must be able to walk 3-5 hrs.



• Lower Extremes:

Must be able to squat/kneel on occ. basis



• Upper Extremes:

Must be able to grip/grasp papers/pens/desk items on freq. basis.

Must be able to perform extended reach over head with <5 lbs on occ. basis

Must be able to perform extended reach at waist level with <5 lbs on freq. basis

Must be able to bend while reaching with <5 lbs on occ.



• Equipment:

Must be able to use computer and perform keyboarding on daily basis



• Environmental Factors:

May be required to work extended hours beyond 8 hours a day if needed.



JOB DUTIES:

• Assist with confirmation that pre-op requirements are complete per hospital policy.

• Demonstrates appropriate communication skills with all disciplines.

• Functions as the scrub assist to the cardiologist/radiologist following sterility guidelines.

• Assists physician during procedures by operating ancillary equipment, anticipating needs.

• Demonstrates the ability to assess cardiopulmonary and cardiovascular systems pre, intra and post op. Able to recognize, evaluate and record hemodynamics, pressure wave forms and EKG wave forms. Identifies and updates the physician of any adverse physiological changes.

• Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac, emergency, anxiolytic, anticoagulation, antiplatelet and thrombolytic drugs and IV fluids. Ensures communication for documentation of medications with RN.

• Maintains hemostasis of vessels post procedure using appropriate devices.

• Care and assessment of patient is clearly documented.

• Adheres to sterile and aseptic techniques per AORN guidelines.

• Verifies the operation of imaging equipment for all procedures and verifies the integrity of the equipment prior to start of procedure.

• Assists with supplies and ordering as needed.

• Assists with process improvement and quality improvement activities as assigned.

• Responsible to ensure compliance with certifications and competencies.

• Overall commitment to scheduling flexibility, including voluntary time off during low volume schedules and overtime during high volume schedules. Take call as scheduled and responds within the 30 minute response time.

• Complies with Attendance Management Policy in regards to attendance and timeliness, understanding the expectation of maintaining an absence percentage of 3% or less.

• Performs other duties as assigned by persons in charge.
