The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic Utilities and Engineering Team as a Controls Specialist II, supporting building automation systems (BAS) retrofit projects, LED lighting retrofit projects, and Duke Energy rebates. Under the supervision of the Engineering Director, Engineering Services and the Project Manager, this position executes energy audits, provides BAS support for testing and balance, and performs maintenance on BAS and electronic equipment essential for HVAC control.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the programming of building controls retrofit and new construction projects, including startup and functional testing of sensors and actuators.

  • Provide support to contractors and AHU installers, answering questions and ensuring correct installation.

  • Coordinate BAS support for building commissioning activities and verify system operation per design intent.

  • Assist with LED lighting projects, collaborating with personnel and vendors to expedite retrofit projects.

  • Coordinate the process for obtaining energy rebates from Duke Energy and collect required data/invoices.

  • Execute building energy audits, identify conservation measures, and coordinate audit activities with vendors and building managers.

  • Install building controls for retrofit and new construction projects, including conduit installation, sensor installation, and cable terminations.

  • Troubleshoot HVAC issues, direct corrective workflows through the campus CMMS, and perform corrective actions as needed.

  • Review and properly enter work orders, including work status, costs, dates, and actions performed.

  • Perform planned or scheduled preventive/predictive maintenance to proactively identify potential failures.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HVAC Technician Certification EPA Clean Air Section 608.

  • Experience in the repair and maintenance of digital building control systems or HVAC/R.

  • Extensive experience as an HVAC Controls Technician with digital building control system knowledge in large commercial or Government office buildings.

  • Familiarity with Research Methods and Laboratories, including BSL 2 & BSL 3, Vivarium, Clean Rooms, Precision Metrology, Wet Labs, and BSL2P.

  • Strong computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft Office software and AutoCAD.

  • Advanced understanding of HVAC controls theory and concepts; including sequence of operations review, design, implementation, operation, and testing.

  • Ability to handle delicate and problematic situations assertively and decisively.

  • Proficiency in Building Management Systems software such as Siemens Design, Trane, and webCTRL.

  • Experience with Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS).

  • General knowledge of information technology and its impact on work with other systems.

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air compressors, fans, and pumps.

  • Skill in the use and safety of hand and power tools and machines.

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic controls and perform programming and diagnostics.

Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
